I've been playing with codes for about 2 months now and thought I had done a great job ferreting out, contract #, product codes and coupons; finally get a good deal. My husband keeping telling me if I got paid by the hour for the time I've put into reducing the cost of a rental, I would've paid for the car by now.

Well here its, after tracking 9 different Contract #, 7 different Product Codes, and 1 lonely Coupon I got my 6 day rental for Dec. 14 - 19 down to 174.51. Yesterday, I had a hour to kill so I tried a few more code combination and got the price down to 162.34. Yea!!! I cancelled my previous 2 reservation, afraid I would lose track of the different reservation. When I went to show my husband how successful I was, I found I had miskeyed my Coupon # 10008560 (MC free upgrade) to 10008566 (SYBASE INC) which had a great additional discount but not a upgrade. I was disappointed but oh well, I thought I could just re-enter my last combination at 174.51. No luck! Now my best price is 189+. Just call me "fat finger Sue" typing queen. I try to find out about SYBASE and discovered the coupon is problemly associated with a Tech Industry Convention package Anyone got a suggestion?

Sandy

"Update:

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I just booked using Priceless Vacation and a Master Charge (MC) free upgrade coupon for $165.75 for an Intermediate. Woo Hoo!

Did you try going in to your actual existing reservation and changing your coupon via their website or over the phone?

If you get a good rate and then need to change something like the time or date that National will honor the base rate you originally got. This used to not be the case but is true now. I changed my pickup and drop off times and my wonderful base rate of $110 wasn't affected.

Good luck!

I've changed that reservation as many ways as I can. Also signed off, shut down computer and tried again later. We know that Nationals web page can be difficult sometimes. I even changed browsers hoping that would help. The best I can get right now is base rate $165.98 for a compact. The Internet Special for Product Code WWEB ends Dec 15. I've tried WEBK8, VRWK & CAWK to get a better base rate. No Luck.

I won't give up.

If you have the reservation number that you cancelled but really want - you could try to call National and explain it was cancelled by accident - they may be able to restore it for you.

Good advice! I think it takes about 24 hours for the reservation to actually cancel--so maybe they will reinstate it!
