This is a related post to my post requesting entertainment discount codes. I have the codes for either $15.00 off rental or double upgrade (either one would be fine with me) - Thank-you "kajunswty". We are also Emerald Isle members. I already have a reservation at National thru my Emerald Isle membership. I just called National to apply one of these coupons and the agent told me I can't do that. It's one or the other - You can't use Emerald Isle and then apply a coupon also. I KNOW for a fact I did this last August. Maybe it was the agent in August that was wrong and I got away with something I shouldn't have. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Try Dollar using the code Fish, I have found they always have the best rates for me. I rent a minivan.

I have yet to rent a car from National when I didn't use the Emerald Club and a coupon..usually the Disney Club coupon, though, because it's usually the most $$$ off.

Why don't you rent your car online?? Then you don't have to worry about agents who may not know what's what.

I have used both 5 or 6 times in the past 3 yrs. Try online booking, its fast & easy and you can keep checking back for the best price available as they do fluctuate quite a bit. Your Emerald Aisle # should automatically come up in the corp code window then put in your Entertainment coupon code too. I get both discounts. I have also tried other codes like Disney Club or Bank of America on the coupon for the corp code and sometimes you get both discounts sometimes not. My husband also is EA member and sometimes the code comes up automatically for him with no discount so I change it to my code and it has given the discount & worked fine. Only thing I can figure is I have rented the car more times than him and so they give me the bigger discount. It pays to play with it. I have had prices for 1 week anywhere from $105-$190 for a full size for a week or more and that even includes taxes. Those prices beat any others I have ever received and EA is so convenient. Good luck.

Being a DC member, I am also a member of the Emerald Club. I have to say that in order to use its features (overrated, if you ask me), you must rent a car of a certain size. Dollar, however, gives you Fastlane benefits which are just like Emerald Club's at check in and drop off, regardless of the size of car you rented.

When I tried to make my reservation with National online, I realized that by selecting an economy car through the Emerald Club website, my DC discount does not come through, although the information is in my profile. I have no idea about what is up with that.

Code fvg (I think) gave me the deepest discounts with Dollar. You may want to check out mousesavers.com's codes for car rentals and see if anything new pops up. I checked out other onsite companies but Dollar's beat their rates. Don't even bother with Alamo or other companies that do not have a counter inside the airport... You waste a lot of time in shuttle transfers and lines.

I used emerald Aisle with a coupon a few weeks ago. I booked it online.

I have found that for an intermediate or full size (same price if you are an emerald club member) National is the cheapest using the disney club contract code & free weekend day coupon. I keep trying Avis & dollar but I can't get anything that comes close to National! $380 for 3 weeks at national vs 479 at dollar!!!

For a minivan others may be cheaper. Don't forget that when comparing rates National includes all taxes on the first screen, but for dollar you have to go to Reserve to add in the taxes! It makes a huge difference.

All taxes figured in, and price totaled, Dollar saved me $100 for a 9 day rental. It even allowed me to rent an economy car and keep Fastlane privileges, what National would never allow me to do.

I checked out all the companies in the airport. I compared reservations for Emerald Club members and non-members. In fact, I noticed that Emerald Club rates were overall higher! That was shocking, so before anyone assumes you're getting the lowest rates as a member, check what is available to non-members.

Like I said before, I used code fvg for the end of August, and with taxes and applicable fees figured in, Dollar's rates were the lowest I found, coming up at ~$121/week and ~$21/extra day.

Thank-you to all who replied. I always make my reservations on line - the reason I called reservations yesterday was because I already have a reservation (thru Emerald Isle that I booked on line). The rates are higer now (than my current res.) and if I modify my reservation on line to add a coupon, it automatically will change it to the current, higher rate. In trying to avoid that I called and asked if they could add the coupon, keeping my original weekly rate. That's when the agent told me I can't use Emerald Isle and a separate coupon. She said when I use a couponi it goes in the "coupon i.d." field. With any coupon I must use the "contract .i.d" that goes with that coupon (i.e. using an entertainment coupon you must use the contract i.d. for entertainment). Contract I.D. is where Emerald Isle goes so I would loose Emerald Isle benefits. Sorry if this is confusing. I know I used Emerald Isle and a separate coupon in August so I will just keep watching the rates. If they come down enough to warrant changing I will do so. Thanks again to everyone who replied.

Well, poohlovr, your glowing sarcasm isn't much help if you realize that rates change daily, dear. I merely quoted the price of my reservation. You looked up intermediate when I reserved economy (and got my numbers off there), but further arguing that point is petty to me.

Disneyspells, I am not surprised because that is my experience with Esmerald Club. Somehow, I lose my DC discount when I try to book a ressie and the rates are lower indeed when I follow the non-member route.

Wanda

Excuse me?? I wasn't trying to be sarcastic. I was honestly referring to your endorsement of Dollar and trying to find a cheaper rate than what I have with National. I have no particular fondness for National and rent where I can get the lowest rate.

And if you notice I said "I keep checking all of the rental sites" I think that does show I am aware that
that rates change daily, dear.

You looked up intermediate

Yeah--I did--cause that's what I need. I wasn't trying to shoot down anything you said or prove or disprove anything. I was merely trying to show the problem I'm having.

I am so sorry that you seem to think everything is a shot at you. Obviously there are issues here and I stumbled onto them quite unintentionally.

And talk about sarcasm! I didn't intend any and the fact that you took it as such is a reflection more on you than on anything I said. You however, made it a point to try to be sarcastic...

And here I thank Microsoft for the delete button

Sorry sorry sorry.. Mea culpa and pubilc embarrasment, you deserve an apology.

Wanda

Appreciate the informative posts - I had a reservation booked using my EA contract # and an Entertainment coupon for a free wkd day. The rate was $178. I "played" around with it today based on Gillian's recommendation and "voila!" got a cheaper rate using my DC id and coupon for free wkd day again (DC coupon). Saved $26! BTW, the daily rate wasn't cheaper but the discount was better. Thanks!

I have an intermediate with Avis for 1 week (beginning in 10 days!!!) for $192 including all taxes--also with their Emerald Club equivalent.

Instead of trying to add a coupon to an exsisting EA res.; try making a new res. using both your association code and coupon code. If it comes out cheaper, just cancel the first res.

Could someone please email me a copy of the Disney Club free day coupon. I've been onto the DC site under new offers and offers ending soon and the coupon is no longer there. Thanks. kriley@cimass.org

All you need to do is go the the disneyclub site and sign in. Then in the search box put in free day. The offer will pop up and you just hit redeem at the bottom. You have to do this because the coupon it generates is required at check in to get the free weekend day.

Hope this helps!:)

Poohlvr, if it makes you feel any better, I can't get the codes at Dollar to work either :( so you are not alone!!! I found a much better deal with National using my Disney Club Discount.

Hello all, I'm not a member of the disney club but we are EA members and I just got a quote for a compact car for 8 days for $333.13 with tax for 8 days and $195.93 with Dollar so of course I booked for Dollar. Do you need to pay for the car upfront when you go online? I really don't have alot of knowledge on how to "play around" for decent car rates. I think this one is pretty good.

What do you all think?

I don't know what dates you're travelling, and that seems to matter quite a bit. We are travelling in November and for me, with the dc codes, I was able to get national for 8 days at $167. (that includes all the taxes and fees) I think what you got sounds pretty good if you didn't use any type of coupon. Did you try your dollar quote with the code FVG?

Also, I have never paid for my rental car ahead of time when booking online.
