National Car Rental - Specials to Go?

National is currently offering "Special To Go Car Rental Prices" for Orlando. I already have a reservation but the Special base price is several $$'s less per day. I thought it would have a Product Code like a "WEB" special, instead it's a contract #. It doesn't make any sense to me, but my current price total is cheaper by $20 with a higher daily rate. Anyone got a guess on what's happening here or did I do something wrong.

Sandy

The rates you describe are only valid for the time designated at the top of the chart. If you are traveling during those dates or I think at least beginning your rental during that period you can get you rental cheaper. If the total is less who cares about the details? Just make sure that the lower price is confirmed with the lower price and don't forget to use your coupons! If you can get any that match your time period and car class, use them. They use a rate code instead of a product rate code so you can't add any additional discounts (e.g. your disney club number) except the coupons.

I hope I didn't confuse you more. I am jealous because I have a rental in mid Jan. I hope that the last minute specials include Orlando when I leave.

Good luck!

You can add your contract id to these reservations and your coupons. I just did it, for fun, with the DC club and a BJs coupon and I got a significant discount. Not as good as my original reservation, but, not too bad either.
then, there are those last minute specials, which are significantly reduced where you can add coupons, but, that is it, and they only last for a few days rental. IE:

Rates are valid from Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003 through Monday, Dec. 15, 2003 .

Daily Rate 1 day minimum, 4 day maximum rental
Weekly Rate 5 day minimum, 28 day maximum rental with an overnight Saturday keep required
Weekend Per Day Rate Rental must begin between 12:00 PM Thursday and 11:59 PM Saturday with an overnight Saturday keep required. Vehicle must be returned by Monday
So many rates, so little time, so confusing. :)

How can you put in a contract id number if they already filled in the field for the specials to go. I know that you can add a coupon but if you replace the contract id then you won't get the special price. You can put in a product rate code but I don't think that would change anything.

I think we are talking about two different things. The last minute specials have it filled in (which I think is what you are talking about), the specials to go (which I am talking about) allow you to enter a contract number, product ID and coupons. There are a bunch of things to select when you go to that page. Unfortunately, National does not allow you to capture a page and give a link, so, I cannot explain with an example, but, if you just click on "Great Internet Rates" it will show you what I am talking about.

Thanks for the info regarding National. I did have a weekly rate for a mid-size through Alamo for $125 including taxes/fees (which I thought was a great rate). I went to National's site after reading these posts and played around with various ID #'s, products rates, and coupons and came up with a weekly rate of $120 for an intermediate! It saved me $5 (no biggie!), but now I have Emerald Aisle service with National which I LOVE!! I was a little apprehensive about using Alamo, but now that I have National, I am so THRILLED!! Thanks!

That is a GREAT rate, when are you dates and what codes did you use?

Hi Gail, My dates are January 1-6, 2004. I combined the AMWK product rate (have to pay with Am. Express to get this discount) plus I used one of the Entertainment coupons - to get an additional $20 off an intermediate weekly rental. Hope it helps someone. It's worth it to spend the time playing around with the various "codes" out there. When I did this a few weeks ago, I couldn't get National any lower than $170, so I'm excited that this afternoon after reading this thread (it motivated me to try again!) I was able to get it down to $120. I think that's the lowest weekly rental I've ever paid!

I don't have an AMEX , but, thanks for the tips. Hopefully, it will help others.
