National - Any one ever have this happen?

Have you ever reserved a certain class type - say a full size - and arrive to find no full size available? If so, what did National do?

Yes we had a compact reserved, there were none left, so we got an intermediate for no additional charge.

In May of last year I had a non-Emerald Club reservation. I got a great corporate rate for a compact and then had an upgrade coupon from the Entertainment Book, so the counter marked my reservation as intermediate. When I got to the garage - no intermediates. There was a family of 4 waiting too, an attendant pulled up a Grand Am for them. Another attendent said to wait a minute and then he pulled a Malibu from the full size aisle. So I got a full size for compact price.

Last trip we rented a compact from Dollar at MCO and used an upgrade coupon to get an intermediate. That evening we discovered a headlamp was out. I called to have them fix it...they directed me to the Dollar location on Rt 192 (we were staying offsite and it was literally just across the street). When I took the car over, the clerk was alone with no mechanic on duty. They had no intermediates, nor did they have any full size on the lot. He gave us a fully loaded minivan for the price of a compact! AND....they deducted a full day's cost for our inconvenience! Since this was a 16 day trip to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary, that was quite some gift! Best rental car deal we ever got!
