Does National charge for an additional driver if that person is your spouse?

What about if you are a part of the Emerald service?

Thanks.

If you are an Emerald Club member, there is no additional fee for your spouse.
If not, you pay per day for the extra driver.
If you are not an EC member you can join for free via a link at www.mousesavers.com

I called the National desk at MCO and they said with the Emerald Service the additonal driver fee is only waived if you have a corporate account with them and the additional driver is from the same company.

Does anyone have knowledge of this?

Thanks.

That is incorrect. If you are an Emerald Club member the following will not incur an extra driver charge.
Authorized Drivers
Free (in the United States and Canada) – An Emerald Club members spouse, immediate family living with him/her, business partner, employer, or fellow associate who has an assigned corporate contract with National and drives the car for business purposes.

All other additional authorized driver situations are subject to a daily charge. Click here for our policy on additional drivers.

Are you an Emerald Club member? I am confused by your use of the phrase " Emerald Service".

By "Emerald Service" I was meaning either Emerald Club or Emerald Ailse service.
I was looking to sign up through the MouseSavers link (Turner Travel) but I first wanted to find out about the additional driver policy.

I read that same statement on National's website, but I was/am confussed by the part that says, "who has an assigned corporate contract"...so that's why I called them.

They said if my Emerald Club service is through a contracted company than I don't have to pay the add. driver fee (provided that person also works for the company).
If however my Emerald Club service is personal than I do have to pay the fee.

-----

I was on the phone with them as I was typing this and now they say I don't have to pay the additional driver fee if both people are Emerald Club members (regardless of corporate contract or personal)...geessh!!

The policy is very poorly worded. I can understand the confusion.
I copied and pasted their policy in a pervious message. I also called the EC hotline and asked them last summer.
Spouses, family members that have the same address and same last name are not charged to be an additional driver, they don't have to sign anything and it is an automatic benefit.
I can tell you, from personal experience, that the folks at MCO are NOT brain trusts. I had a reservation confirmation that I handed the girl at the check out booth, she looked at it and asked when we were returning the car ( I shouldl have known I was in trouble then), I said it is on that piece of paper you have in your hand.
She plugged in numbers and ta da, I now have a rental rate of 200.00 more than quoted. The reservation was marked as a no show and this mental midget had made an entirely new reservation. It took better than an hour to fix upon our return (between the garage personell and the counter person). I can tell you, I was annoyed and did write a letter to National corporate, they sent us a 50.00 voucher for a future rental.
I do understand that mistakes occur and I do understand that they often don't train their people very well, but, this really made me angry. This, IMHO, was not an error, it was because of not training properly and hiring someone who has less brains than a gnat.
Sorry for the rant, but, I really hate seeing people jagged around like you were.
