cost $5.49 today at ShopRite for a 14 oz pack  So a pound of Hot Dogs costs more than a pound of fresh Ground Beef??? Needless to say I didn't purchase them, wow the prices of hot dogs are apparently going way up.

I stopped buying Nathans a few years ago. Sad, because they were my FAVORITE!! I don't know what they did but they changed the recipe or rather the ratio of "meat" to fat. They were so greasy and yucky tasting. I had two packs that were gross like that and then I switched to Ball Park. Much better!:thumbsup2

Well the best part of the pig costs about $3.50 a pound and one of the worst (Bacon) about $5.00 a pound. So I'm not surprised that Hot Dogs now cost more than ground beef.

It's a premium brand. However, I remember years ago I found that the brand was the cheapest brand name at a certain supermarket, with prices close to store brand.

I'm pretty sure you'll find something cheaper - maybe Armour or another brand.

I noticed today at Walmart they were around $4.50/pack. DH loves them and the Hebrew National hot dogs.

Needless to say, I passed on them. Instead I bought the Johnsonville Brat "Better with Cheddar" brats. Yum!!

We don't get them too often, but they are a bargain in BJs. I think it's about $10-12 for a 4 pound pack of Nathan's hot dogs.

Love Nathans, but usually buy the Bar-S hot dogs for 65 cents at Walmart.
:)

Nathan's are the only hotdog I buy. So good! The price tag stings a little but I think they're worth it.

I can't eat Bar-S products. DH used to work for the factory and sliced the tips of his fingers off on a bacon slicer. They turned the machine right back on and kept slicing (without cleaning it) as he left with EMTs.

I know that kind of thing happens way more than I care to know about but hearing about it firsthand... Not for me lol.

Where I live Nathan's have always been more for a pack than a pound of ground beef! That's nothing new.

Regular dogs like Oscar Meyer, etc, are still less than a pound of ground beef.

I am a 10 minute walk from Coney Island, so I get to pay $3.50 for ONE hot dog at the original Nathan's. LOL. Worth it? I think not.

ShopRite ranks in the Top Ten Worst Grocery Stores, price being one of he factors.

I agree, too, that Nathan's suddenly got so greasy! We buy Hummel's now (not sure if those are regional or not). Expensive but worth it to avoid thinking what could be in the hot dogs! :)

I'm impressed you're still alive after eating anything made by Bar-S.

Oh? around here Shop Rite consistently wins shopper's polls for best all-around supermarket, and their prices are the lowest. Now if a Wegmans decided to open locally that might change.

Got Nathan's hot dogs at Shop Rite about a month ago on sale for about $3. But, yeah, they're only 14 ounces.

FYI for those who like these things the Hess station by the MK main gate has two grilled Nathan's dogs for $3. All the local constrction workers go in there to eat lunch! :lmao:

OT can you tell me if Cyclone will be open this year to ride? Wasn't it closed for a while a couple of years ago?

And 25 years ago supermarkets could barely sell any chicken wings at 49c a pound. Now they're sometimes more than boneless skinless breasts.

Me, and a few million others since they are apparently the best selling hot dogs in the U.S.

Actually, my mom grew up on a farm, and anytime we visited her cousins who still lived on the farm, we probably ate far worse things than Bar S products. On the farm they waste NOTHING. Ever had headcheese?

Love headcheese. Especially on a Vietnamese sandwich. It's usually "#1" on the menu and is sometimes referred to as "ham" to keep from scaring away potential customers.

I tried grossing out my Italian manager once by telling him about some of the more exotic cuts of meat I've had, including tongue and brain. He said he grew up on a farm relatively poor. His family had a commercial egg farm, but they also raised their own animals for meat on the side. He said they never wasted anything because they couldn't afford to. They ate all the organs and threw away nothing. Offal didn't offend his sensitivities.

I've never had cheese but remember seeing it at the A&P deli counter as a kid. It was next to the tongue:crazy2:.

I don't like hot dogs or any kind of sausage product for fear of biting into gristle (insert vomit smiley). I do buy trader Joe's nitrate free dogs occasionally for dh and dd. I have no idea what they cost.
