Well the costume change is the only evidence that the concert did indeed get interrupted. 9:30 viewers got the whole show, those who changed channel when it went to last year's show at 8:40 missed half the show and the orange dress. 
EDIT: So the orange dress was from Saturday's dress rehearsal, and that was why the crowd was quieter the second airing:

I'm finding it kind of sad that there are so FEW commentaries about a live TV concert being interrupted like this.
