Nasty!

There is no way to "air out" a smoker. The smoke is in their clothes, hair, breath, body etc. Just walking around outside will not dissipate the smell. I used to work with a bunch of smokers and the smoking area was outside, so they had to walk down a path to an outside seating area. Even walking outside, smoking outside, and walking back after the cigarette, they still stunk when they came back. Nothing you can do.

Oh please, guy in my office craps his pants every few months. You don't have a clue about nasty.

We thought that was going on with my boss. Turns out, it's his breath. And yes, it quite literally smells like poo when it's real bad. If you're across the room from him & he starts talking, you can count to 2 before the stench hits you.

Weird thing is his wife gets the same bad breath, but not nearly as strong. I wonder if it's some dietary supplement they take that causes it. But, it's NASTY.

That was my first thought. Sometimes natural supplements can have those side effects. If not, they need to get to a dentist for a good cleaning!

I'm a plant eater. I wonder if I can get my neighbours to stop bbqing their meat.

I had a boss for a time that we called 'dog#@!& breath". Freaking disgusting. Then there was my daughter's friend's mother who you knew if she was in the same stadium as the rest of us if she opened her mouth.

I am so happy with most of the responses and I agree. You have issues with them so you should change.

It's not his breath.

About the nastiest thing I encounter on a regular basis is being trapped in an elevator with someone who is just coming in from smoking. Nasty!

To the smokers out there, can you please air out a bit before you get on the elevator?

I've had nastier elevator experiences than smelling someone's cigarette clothing. I'll leave it at that.

OMG, my son had one friend in grade school who smelled so bad we had to drive with the windows down when he was in the car. If my son spent the night, we had to take him straight home for a hose down after we picked him up! Nicer kid and nicer parents you will never meet. But MAN. The stench.......
We had a friend that raised dogs.

Same thing. Everyone smelled of dog.

It made me gag.

But you deal with it.

There was this story I heard many years ago about Katherine Hepburn letting a real nasty fart rip in an elevator. :scared1::faint: Probably wasn't true, but who knows.....

Let's see.....
Someone who's just had a meal loaded with garlic at Tony's Town Square can reek.
Any one who's just had beans at Pecos Bills can give off an unmistakable sulfur dioxide smell.
Ladies who wear perfume made from tortured cats can make some people puke. (me)
Internal combustion engines have already been mentioned but the Speedway is especially bad.
All in all there about three or four hundred smells that the human olfactory sense comes into contact with every day at Disney that can be unpleasant.
Why do people single out smokers to be annoyed at?
Oh yeah....
I forgot.....
They're the new Lepers and are fair game for liberal minded people to take shots at whenever they choose.
Well After 47 years of smoking I gave it up five years ago.
I don't like the smell of smoke either.
But the phrase, "Walk a mile in my shoes" comes to mind when I'm around smokers and I have the good grace to keep my opinions to myself instead of trying to whip others into a lathered frenzy of hatred for those who haven't been able to break their addiction.
Like my Mom used to tell me; "A skunk should smell it's own rear end before complaining about how someone else smells."

I can deal with the smell of smoke for a few minutes way easier than many other nasty odors. Live and let live.

I promise you, I am not considering smokers Lepers. But I do think if your addiction makes your child smell every. single. day. of their life, you are most likely going to be judged. And, of course, smoking is more dangerous than making your child stink. You are hurting them too.

I think every smoker knows people are side eyeing them every time they light up.

It's the vitriol the OP came out with. I'm not taken aback by a lot, but even I was a bit shocked by the nastiness. I'd stand around 10 smokers before being around someone with the OPs attitude any day of the week.

I suppose if the OP was trapped in an elevator on a regular basis with any of the above mentioned she would have ranted about that.

Congrats on giving it up after so long, not an easy accomplishment!

When my son was born, his pediatrician said that if anyone smoked, they needed to change their shirt before holding him. My mother in law smoked, so we told her this and we told her nicely. She had a fit. So, I can

Liberal-minded? What do you mean? I would think someone who is liberal-minded would accept more. If you mean politically liberal, you'd better not go there.

Some people can't be around smoke. I can't be around people burning in their yard or around people smoking personally. People that smoke by the doorways of stores or can't wait to get past the door to light one up is beyond me. I just don't get it. It is inconsiderate of others to not think that what they are doing is effecting other people's health. Either they don't think or they plain don't care.

They probably don't care. Just like any other group, there's polite smokers and rude smokers.

I personally made a huge effort to be polite and considerate when I smoked, even to the point where my DH was annoyed. I wouldn't walk and smoke outside - I'd stay in the same spot and he hated that! Now that we don't smoke, he gets it. He hates getting caught walking behind a smoker.

I'd like to think most are polite.

I get annoyed with the smell. But having started my work life when smokers were still allowed to leave cigarettes burning in an ash try on their desk, I learned to pick my battles. Now that I'm older and have been diagnosed with asthma, I'm more sensitive to it than ever. But dang, I still remember how awful it was to work near someone smoking at their desk. Thank heaven for all the zealots who helped put an end to that!
