Nasty Menu Changes Teppan Edo & Tokyo Dining

Well I cancelled. I'm not taking the chance that tempura is still on.

the official disney menu has a lot more items than the allears.net menu. The prices look the same and the items on the allears.net menu appear there with the same prices, just with other things not shown. Is it possible the allears.net menu is incomplete? It looks like the lunch menu but the dinner menu has a lot more items added to it and no scallops. Sometimes they get a whole menu wrong on the official disney site but I have found them to be pretty up to date.

Yes, it could be wrong and it has been in the past.

I really just don't understand someone claiming "nasty" when what they really mean is "I don't want to pay those prices."

Thanks for all the "nasty" info Sam :P. We will likely do one for lunch later this month so I will have to really look at the menu before we do. And totally agree with you free dining comment. Understand free at Disney really just translates to profit for them, but those of us with no interest in free dining or a dining plan in general shouldn't have to pay the proverbial price too

I did three Free Dining trips and never chose Teppan Edo because the desserts sound so lame.

There are better "free" choices IMO.

So no changes to Teppan then? Cause that's my only concern honestly. It's been asked a few times here with no reply. Not sure why Op even has it listed at this point.
The only changes I see at Teppan Edo are the add-on entree enhancements and the elimination of scallops as a standard entree. This may be the same as when we dined there in December - not sure. None of the changes would prevent us from eating here. Menus change all the time. I'm also not clear on why this would be such an issue specifically for those guests on the Dining Plan. Other than the scallops the menu still has many good options. If scallops are a make or break for someone there are plenty of other restaurants to try.

Well, the entree I had in January that I think older DS would love is only on the allears menu. The filet that I assumed younger DS would get is only on the Disney menu. DH and I may have to eat there later this month just to figure out what exactly is/isn't on the dinner menu now :D

Haven't eaten at Tokyo in a few years, and I am a little disappointed in some of the changes. However, it wouldn't turn me away from eating there. If you want to go and have sushi and are paying OOP and don't like Tokyo dining anymore, go over to Kimono's at the Swan/Dolphin.

As for Teppan Edo, I didn't see the changes, scallops are extra...I don't remember when they weren't! They still have the steak and shrimp, and chicken and shrimp combo's. They still have a strip loin steak. IMHO having the changes at Tokyo dining, differentiate it even more so from Teppan Edo, providing different dining experiences. We love Japanese food, and it won't turn us away from eating at either one of those places, just makes for a new experience at Tokyo dining.

Where is Tokyo Dining? All my trips to Epcot and I never realized there was another sit down restaurant in the Japan Pavilion. Menu looks very enjoyable!

The Tokyo Dining menu has gotten progressively worse throughout the years. They used to have an extensive sushi menu and now they only offer about four choices. It is the worst Japanese menu I've ever seen, quite frankly. It's a shame, because the atmosphere and service at Tokyo Dining are great! It's Kimono's for us over the last few years. We skip the DDP and go get quality sushi!

I don't know if the menu had changed last week, but my DD and he family dined at Tokyo Dining and found it to be the most disappointing meal of the trip. They did not have Free Dining, and they are not cheap when it comes to meal costs or add ons if they want something, but they thought the entire thing, minus dessert, which they likes was mediocre at best. They used the DDP and said that that was where the issue was. The sushi options on the plan were limited, I think. They will not return, DDP or not.

1) What do people expect for FREE dining?
2) Disney gives NOTHING away for free . . . or to the benefit of the guests.
3) If it doesn't make an approved profit, Disney does not give it.

Rusty, I know you are no fan of dining plans, and Free Dining makes you cringe, but holy cow! I think this is Disney saving money. Period. They do offer discounts and Free DDP is just one of them. I think that they would have consolidated ordering product, and would have reduced portions and choices no matter what "discount" they choose to offer the public. They are looking for the line that will put them over a guest's buying power, and honestly given wha tI have been reading about attendance in the peaks, I bet they are over the mark but don't know it yet.

They got rid of the steak entree!
The chicken entree is about the same price as the steak one that they eliminated.

By eliminating the steak entree,
they can offer far cheaper meats--like chicken-- @ steak prices!
A brilliant maximize-the-profits Bean Counter move.

Yeah. Because it can't possibly have to do with supply/demand.

I really wish they would just do away with the DDP anyhow.
I do too..but I think it is too good a deal for Disney.
For the most part their restaurants are 100% full..so no issues with ordering food (and the related waste of over ordered product)
The know how much staff they need well in advance because you have to book 180 days out.
They can set whatever price they want on the menu to make the DDP look like a great deal - higher prices means larger tips for the staff.
Many times the room only rate and adding DDP is cheaper than free DDP, but people don't realize that and take the free DDP - so again higher rates for rooms even if it is only 2 or 3 percent.
They are keeping people on property - and those people are drinking very profitable alcohol with their meals.
The only upside I see to DDP is I can pay for it on my Disney Visa as part of the package deal and then it is 0% interest for 6 months

I'm so tired of the assumption that those families selecting the Free Dining promotion do not realize what they are doing. For many - including my family - it is the best deal.
Why does it have to go there every time?

It's all subjective and I think it varies greatly within each family making your use of the word many wrong.

My family stays for 10 nights plus every time we stay. We only stay in the cheapest value resorts at standard level not even Pop anymore since its a little extra. We do upgrade to the ddp.We eat at character meals very frequently. If we do a ts breakfast only if it includes a character buffet. It's Dh, me, ds12 who can eat like a college football player and dd7. I make sure to make the most out of every meal we have.

We get a pizza at the resort using the 2cs credits, get desserts/sides and use our mugs. Get free ice water in the parks and never use a snack credit on drinks. We usually have a dozen of snack credits we use to fill up on treats to take home or souvenirs for teachers, etc.

The list goes on and on.

Did you know a long time ago your snack credit could be used on full family size items if it was under a certain price? Those full sized entemanns donuts were included. We'd have a couple boxes from the resort store for breakfast all week till that was stopped.

I can not be the only family out there that gets more bang for their buck than the tiny room discount would give.

It is in the same building as Teppan Edo. One restaurant is to the left, one to the right. The waiting area where you sit waiting to be seated is for both restaurants.
