Can anyone tell me how far it is from the ship into the Straw Market ?

I recently read a post from someone who said on the walk from the ship to the town there was a dead rat lying in the street , stray dogs scavenging in the rubbish and locals hassling people to have their hair braided.

I'm not sure whether to get off the ship now at Nassau. I was only planning to have a look around and go to the Straw market.

Is there a shore excursion we should do there ?

I'd appreciate your help, its my first cruise.

:D

The straw market is a few blocks from the ship. It's not a bad walk. There are alot of other shops along the way.

While I agree that Nassau is not the cleanest place I've ever been to, I've not seen dead rats nor have I seen dogs like you described.

You WILL be ask quite a few times for hair braiding and even worse, cab or carriage rides, right as you enter Nassau, but after you get past the welcome center area you should not see much of that.

All in all it's not that bad. If you've never been to Nassau I feel one should go just to see another culture at least. And you can say "been there, done that, bought a T-Shirt" :)
Have fun

One of the excursions offered by DCL in Nassau is the Blue Lagoon Dolphin Encounter and Beach Day. My DD 5 and I had a wonderful time. You don't have to do the encounter, unless you want to and pay for it. The Beach Day charge ( I forget how much) includes lunch and a drink. There is also Paradise Island you can visit and there is alot to do there.

Personally, I've been to Nassau 3 times, and I don't care for it.
But Paradise Island is marvelous and the Dolphin Encounter was a blast!

Ursula:

Do you recall how long the trip took to get back to the ship from Blue Lagoon? If you take the 2:00 pm ferry when would you be back on board? How was the ferry going and coming -- I have heard references that it is crowded, and I have also heard some negatives about the food/drink on this excursion.

My daughter wants to do the beach, and I know my son would love the Dolphin Encounter. Just trying to figure out if this is the best place to handle this, or perhaps CC will take care of her beach "needs" and we can do the dolphins at another location.

Thanks for any input!
