Just wondering if anyone out there has done the Forts/Queen's Staircase/Junkanoo Excursion? My adult DD and I are thinking of doing this. Normally, we would just go on our own and see the sights as we have in the past, but DH is uncomfortable with us going on our own:confused3, so we're caving and doing an excursion to keep him happy:rolleyes:. This excursion looks to cover most of the "historical" areas.
Just looking for a little input. Thanks.

I was looking at this excursion too. But there is a good self guided Nassau walking tour that hits the same highlights, so I'm trying to decide if this is worth it.

I've done the walking tour with DH, and I enjoyed it very much. You definately get a feel for the town and its people, but DH is uncomfortable with 2 women "going alone", even though I've never had a problem there before. DD and I prefer to be able to "feel" the culture, rather than be in a sterile, enclosed environment. We're more adventuresome than that and smart enough to know how to "travel". When visiting these types of areas, we never wear jewelry, only one of us will wear a watch, never carry purses only a small wristlet, and carry only a small amount of cash in small bills. We don't set ourselves up to look like targets. It's just DH's paranoia about being in "strange" places that is causing us to look at a guided excursion.

We did it this past June but we had two kids, 8 and 2, and wanted something they could do where we wouldn't have to walk much. The forts were mildly interesting, there were some good views from up high, but we liked the Junkaroo Museum the best - there was a short tour, then everyone went into to back to tables filled with lots of loud percussion instruments - all the different drums, cowbells, whistles, etc.. and there was participation, very very loud, but the kids loved it.
It was only about 3 or 4 hours, which I wanted as well. But, with just adults you might like some of the other city tours or Graycliff better.

We did this last year, and I loved it. I wanted the kids to get a sense of Nassau, and the history, and this was a perfect way to do that. My kids loved Junkanoo (and my dh!) since it is hands on. The husband and wife that have the museum are so nice and friendly, and we got to try on different headdresses from past parades. I was a little nervous, since there had just been a spate of armed robberies, but there were police everywhere.

:thumbsup2
