Edited to add there is a huge New Years Eve event at the foot of Broadway every year with a free outdoor concert. It is much too crowded for me to be there but they have big name acts. My daughters have paid to be next door at the Acme and had a good time. They have a roof top that overlooks the madness but they charge more for that.

Now that I've had more time to research, I have a little better idea of the NYE celebration. We'll want to do something quintessentially Nashville & have pretty much decided we would like to experience Bash on Broadway, if we can make it work with my health limitations & our general dislike of massive crowds. Is the Acme roof top a good location to fully experience Bash on Broadway, w/o being on the street with the crowd? Are there any other locations like this? A location that allows us to be in the middle of the celebration & go inside as often as we need to warm up, w/o having to fight the crowd is what we're looking for. One caveat that may make finding the right spot more challenging is I have really bad knees & can't climb stairs. If it's a multi-story building, it needs to have an elevator.

PS: I know my questions are probably getting old by now & probably feel like beating a dead horse. I truly appreciate your patience.

If you can get first few rows of the balcony do that, otherwise go more for center. There's hardly a bad seat at the ryman

If you can get the floor in the first several rows it's good. The balcony first few rows if it's center let's you see it all. It should, I know it just went under a renovation in the past few years. Someone would have to correct me if I'm wrong

I asked my daughters about seeing the Bash on Broadway from the Acme. They say that you can not see the Bash from the lower floors and they have their own music inside. You have to pay a lot more for roof top access and they have never paid that but think you should be able to see it from there. And there is an elevator. The one drawback is you are not allowed re-entry. Once inside you cannot go out into the street to hear the music and then come back inside. Another option is the Hard Rock Cafe. It is across Broadway from Acme and in the past has had a tent in their parking lot from which you can view the Bash on Broadway. Rock Bottom also has roof top access and it is just a block away from Acme so it is still close to the Bash. I don't know specifics about it but I would think it will be a similar setup. You will need to book early for any of these locations because they will sell out. I don't know when tickets will go on sale.

I like the balcony better than anything more than 10 or so rows back on the main floor. The balcony is fairly low and can obstruct the view of tall people if they stand very far back on the main floor, no problems though if everyone is seated. I have bad knees and did not have any trouble going up the stairs. I don't know about an elevator.

I have been to the Ryman recently, and I honestly didn't look for an elevator. Their website says they have one, though http://ryman.com/about/accessibility so I assume they know what they're talking about.

As far as buying tickets - I'd buy earlier rather than later. They DO sometimes release seats right before certain performances, but I think you'll be happier if you go ahead and purchase tickets as soon as you know you'll be attending a show. There are NO bad seats there, but I wouldn't go beyond the first few rows of the balcony. You can still see/hear. This is a smaller venue, but I think the first four rows of the balcony and the bulk of the downstairs seating best preserve the original experience of attending the Grand Ole Opry there.

So, the floor is better in the first few rows, then the first few rows of the balcony are the next best? It appears the first two rows of the balcony are sold out or aren't available to book. The first few rows on the floor are available, but cost a little more. Not a lot more though. We'll buy our tickets sometime this week or next to get good seats & cross our fingers the weather in North Carolina cooperates with us & we don't get stuck there in snow. That would be our luck.

Thanks for the Bash on Broadway viewing locations. We'll probably try for the Acme rooftop, since it sounds like that's the most desirable location. That said, with the BoB seemingly gaining in popularity each year, I'm afraid Acme's rooftop will cost even more than last year. It's good to know we have other options & what they are.

I can get section H on the floor at Ryman Auditorium or section C in the balcony. Which one? Unfortunately, it appears the Premium seats are already gone. I didn't realize I needed to book so early. Will either of the options I still have now be great seats?

I think balcony, while it is upstairs it's a better view to everything.

Thanks ladies. I'm going to go ahead & buy the balcony seats. Fingers crossed the band will be someone DS wants to see & we don't get snowed in at NC. It's so hard purchasing tickets blindly without having a clue what the entertainment will be, but the tickets seem to be selling fast.

I've been reading your thread as I took a great family trip to Nashville in 2015 and received lots of advice from the DIS. We loved the Grand Ole Opry show at the Ryman! We took the tour (including the backstage tour) earlier that day and doing the tour and the show in one day was a great experience. I suggest doing that. Because the backstage tour had lots of Johnny and June Cash references we skipped the Johnny Cash museum as a result.

I think you have tickets for the main must buy right now, Hall of Fame you could get here along with the other tours. Not much has been announced yet for that time frame

I'm glad you had a great trip. We're looking forward to our visit. What time of year were you there?

We want to do the Ryman tour, if it's offered for our dates. If it isn't, we'll at least get to see it during the show. We also wanted to take the Grand Old Opry House tour, but apparently it's closed, when we'll be there. DS said he preferred to see Ryman anyway, so it's okay. Thanks for the heads up on Johnny Cash being represented in the Ryman tour. DS loved him. We'll try to take that tour, before deciding on whether or not to visit the JC museum.

I feel like I should be doing something. I have been checking hotel rates to see if any codes are released or the posted rates go down any. Omni is holding steady. The crazy thing I've noticed, when checking TA for Omni rates, is Hampton Inn & Suites Downtown fluctuates wildly. Some days it's $50 less than Omni. Other days it's $60 more. It's totally bizarre. Luckily, we appear to have booked Peabody Hotel in Memphis at the right time. Their rates continues to rise.

As far as what I need to be looking for next, I'm guessing our NYE event should be the next thing booked. I'm thinking I'll also need to be stalking the sites to try for Catbird Seat & Bluebird Cafe, when the reservations are released. Does that sound like all I should be focused on booking as soon as they're available? Anything else I need to book in advance?
