My 10 year old son has been invited to go to a NASCAR race (Michigan Speedway) with his Aunt. I am really concerned about the noise. We have tried earplugs in the past when he was much younger, and they were very hard for him to keep in. Are there headphones that we can buy or rent before the race (in August) that will be easier for him to use?

Also, any other tips on children attending a NASCAR race would be appreciated (Aunt is single with no kids), and neither dh nor I have ever been to one, either.

We took our boys (8 & 5) to Bristol this year. That place is small and LOUD. They wore the cheapy orange plugs, then over those they put large headphones on. Kind of like the kind that you can get that have a radio in them, or the kind to cover ears at a shooting range.

You can rent scanners at races that come w/earphones, but they are pricey. They are a lot of fun though. It was helpful for us to hear a radio broadcast of the race while we were watching it, because you can't hear the announcers AT ALL. When a car was put a lap down or penalized, without the radio we wouldn't know what happened.

Tell her to pack tons of snacks and drinks. They are pricey there, and once you sit down (depending on how far away your seats are) you could be up for a long walk to find a snack.

He'll have a blast!!
