Nascar fans

In light of the recorded evidence from Kurt Busch's radio transmission, I don't think that Kurt Busch should be racing this weekend either.

I agree that Kurt should be sitting out as well. The sport doesn't need these little games.

Well, I've never liked Kurt Busch so I'm a little bias. With that said, Kurt deserved it. He has instigated this for sometime. Jimmy IMO, could only take so much before he lost control. Kurt has been VERY disrespectful towards Jimmy (ie. has-been / never was), purposely trying to wreck him. After hearing Kurts in car audio I think he too should sit out this weekend. I don't approve of violence but I also don't think it put "a black eye on our sport". Oh, and most importantly GO SMOKE!!! :D

I was surprised, inlight of Busch's in car admission of trying to flatten Spencer's fender, that he was not sitting out a race. He must not have though anyone was monitoring his transmissions. From what I read Spencer's crew picked up this transmission. I think Spencer had to be punished more severely because of the physical contact but Busch is getting off very easily.

I "dislike" (to be nice) Jimmy Spencer I think he should have never been given a ride back last year after he was fired..

I don't like Kurt but Spencer really gets on my nerves and I think he deserves everything he gets

They sort of explained this on Totally NASCAR this week. The problem with the transmission is that you can't always tell if a driver is serious when he says something over the radio. Jeff Hammond says that Daryl Waltrip used to say stuff like that all the time. A lot of drivers do, it's frustrating out there and verbalizing what you would like to do (but probably won't) is sort of a release.

I agree with the punishments for both. The probation for Busch will ensure that he will at least will be watched for the remainder of the season. Having Spencer sit out a race and pay $25,000 is appropriate because he crossed the line when he made it physical. If it really happened as they are reporting Spencer and his crew should have just gone to NASCAR officials with the tape of the transmission and had Busch busted for blantantly trying to take him out. Then Busch would have been punished and Spencer would be driving this weekend.

Now on to a lighter subject - Who's going to win this Saturday night at Bristol and can anyone catch Kenseth? I'm going to say Gordon for the race and I only want Gordon to catch Kenseth - if he can't then Kenseth can be the Champion ;)

Not to rehash old news but I just don't get it.....The #20 could ram cars from behind after a race, push reporters out of his way and punch a photographer getting him a $10,000 fine and anger management classes and NO suspension but Mr. Excitement lands a well deserved shot to schnozz of the #97 and he gets raked over the coals with a 25K fine and a race suspension along with probation?

This is just NASCAR's way of putting political correctness into the sport. In the good ole' days, the boys would mix it up after a race to settle any disagreements and then throw back a few cold ones together. Most of the drivers were from the same part of the country and that was just the way things were done. Now you have the infusion of open wheelers as well as a lot of young guns invading the NASCAR scene. The #97 has a big mouth and likes to run it often. That must be fact because a couple of drivers (the #31 is one of them) offered to pay Spencers fine for him because Busch "deserved" it. I can't believe that HE (Busch) went to the sheriff after the race!!! What a little WHINER (WAAAAAAAAA WAAAAAAA)

If I were to personally choose the lesser of 2 evils, I would rather get punched in the nose than get punted into a concrete wall in excess of 100 MPH. Busch was fighting with a 3200 pound piece of machinery and Spencer just (female dog) slapped him. I think the penalty was too harsh.

and I only want Gordon to catch Kenseth

I don't know about anyone catching the 17 but don't be too surprised to see Junior sitting in the 2nd chair at the head table in the Waldorf Astoria come December ;) ;) ;)

Just my .02 cents

I won't be surprised, I'm just hoping it doesn't happen that way. Some folks would say that Harvick could be in that 2nd chair especially since RCR is so hot right now and Kevin is really moving up in the points. As for no one catching Kenseth folks also keep saying two words - Sterling Marlin. Not that they are wishing bad luck on Kenseth but on some of the boards I go to Kenseth fans are starting to get a little too cocky - so they are reminded that with 13 races left anything can happen. I just keep reminding myself that the Bristol night race last year was where Gordon turned around his bad season and got his first win of the year. He then went on to win 2 more so I'm keeping hope alive! Go Gordon!!! Not knowing what can happen is what keeps me tuning in every week ;)

Dh is a huge Jeff Gordon fan but he may be slightly distracted this weekend. This article was in the Atlanta paper this morning

Model exposes Gordon's love life in Playboy

By RICK MINTER
Atlanta Journal-Constitution Staff Writer

Bristol, Tenn. -- Jeff Gordon thought he had put the tabloid-aspect of his personal life behind him. Suddenly, it has reappeared in his rear-view mirror.

The woman who allegedly had an affair with Gordon that led to a breakup of the driver's storybook marriage is telling all -- and showing all -- in the October issue of Playboy, which hits news stands today.

Deanna Merryman, who says she first met Gordon while working at a Neiman Marcus in Palm Beach, Fla., in 2000, told the magazine she didn't recognize the NASCAR star at first, though her friends did.

"I said, 'What's going on? He's this short little dude," she told the magazine.

Merryman, who also poses nude in the magazine, said she at first declined Gordon's invitations to lunch, but a year later they began an 11-month affair. She said Gordon, who previously had a straight-laced image, "became a wild man."

"He got married when he was 23 and has been on the race track since he was a kid," she said in the interview. "He used to tell me all the time that he never had a chance to have fun."

Gordon's public relations agent declined to comment, but said the driver would be available for interviews today.

Merryman, who once worked as an exotic dancer and had small roles on "Baywatch" and "Veronica's Closet," said Gordon left her for another model.

"Right before my birthday, I found out he was meeting her at the beach," she said.

For years Jeff and Brooke Gordon were the "first couple" of the Winston Cup circuit. They met in victory lane at Daytona International Speedway, where Gordon was a rookie driver and she was a "Miss Winston." They were married in 1994, and were almost inseparable until their split early last year. Court papers filed by Brooke said the marriage was "irretrievably broken as a result of the husband's marital misconduct."

Their divorce was finalized in June.

Merryman said she'd learned one lesson from the relationship.

"I'll never get involved with a married man again," she said. "Or a race car driver."

Busch is a punk, and deserves what he got.....too bad they can't kick him out all together....

Spencer....well, Jimmie is a good ole boy, and there ain't nothing wrong with that ;)

and I for one would LOVE see Jr. sitting in the #2 chair....unless of course Kenseth has a bunch of DNFs and he get the throne!!!!!

Well said Adam, thanks for your comments! As always, insightful!

I don't know how I feel about the Kurt Busch/Jimmy Spencer thing (I'm not THAT huge of a NASCAR fan), but I thought you guys might be interested that when I was coming out of my Criminal Law class I saw that a class called: The Business of NASCAR is being offered this semester at my college.

I would love to see Jr. win the championship this year and like ToriLammy said look at what happened to Sterling Marlin last year. I really wanted to see Stewart repeat this year but he has definitely had his share of bad luck. I'll be happy when he moves back into the top 10.
I'm not a fan of Jack Roush or his team.
Kevin Harvick had a huge chip on his shoulder his rookie year and IMO it's back. When he wasn't doing good he was alot more likeable, again just my opinion.
I root for Stewart, Jr. and J. Gordon and I'm thinking a weekly NASCAR thread would be great. :D

I was thinking the same thing about a weekly Nascar thread. I'll try to start one every Fri Morning.

Bristol is my favorite race. DS is a Jr. fan and also likes Dale Jarrett. DH and DD are Jeff Gordon fans all the way. I like Bobby Labonte, Jeff Gordon, Jr. and the Burton brothers.

Distracted must be good for Gordon ;) He's on the pole. Last year he won from the pole so....GO GORDON!!! Felt bad for Mark Martin though, so close to the pole (and I'm glad it's not Biffle starting 2nd this time - Jeff should be fairly safe cause Martin don't play like that) ;)

I personally think that anytime anything has to come to violence it is wrong. These guys have alot of kids that look up to them and use them as role models. This is such a great sport and I understand that fenders will be rubbed along with egoes, But I just don't think smashing into someone at the end of a race or punching someone in the face is the way these things should be handled. It is really up to Nascar to nip these quarrels in the bud, when they first see them heating up. Stiffer fines, suspensions, whatever it takes, They need to know these things will not be tolerated. Yet I agree the drivers involved should be equally punished.

I KNOW IT IS A LONG SHOT, BUT I AM GOING WITH MY FAVORITE
IN BRISTOL...

GO RUSTY #2

Hey PenskeSth1-
I, too, am a huge Rusty fan, I hope he wins! I saw him win in Bristol in person a few years back and it was one of the best vacations of my life!:D The whole Jimmy Spencer thing seems biased to me. Not all drivers are punished in the same way. Anyway, I totally love Rusty and DH loves Jr. (Dale Sr. was his driver until he was killed:mad: ). It was truly a sad, sad day. I would love to commit to a weekly thread regarding the races. We never miss a race (on TV). I even teased DH that he would have to get his own log on to comment on the Community/Nascar boards each week:D

I think a weekly Nascar thread would be great. We are Jr. fans in this house and also like Michael Waltrip, Terry Labonte and Kenny Scharader. I would love to see Dale Jr. and Theresa (as the car owner) up on stage as the Winston Cup champ!

Do you guys watch Inside Winston Cup on Monday nights on Speed? We love that show!

I too think that Busch should have gotten a stiffer penalty. I don't agree with what Spencer did, but I do think that Busch has been instigating Spencer for quite a while and as a result should be given a stiffer penalty for his part.

I am a HUGE Michael Waltrip fan! I also like Jr, Park, Harvick, Robby Gordon and Kenny Schrader.

I Love that show on Mondays....I call it the Mikey show....LOL

Watch it? We never miss it :D That, Totally NASCAR, Trackside, Victory Lane, and recently Wind Tunnel.

I heard on Trackside last night that they have another audio of Kurt Busch really egging Jimmy on to "do something" when Jimmy approached the 97 car. Terry Labonte had nothing nice to say about Busch and for the first time Jeff Hammond didn't seem to happy with Busch either.

I love Bristol, can't wait till tonights race.
