I can't believe that finally we might see a NASA Shuttle Launch on December 7th.

Now the question -- where, in your opinion, is the best place to watch the launch. We are so excited about the possibility of seeing this.

Thanks,

Leslye

Any beach on the coast from Titusville to Melbourne.

We can watch from our front yard. Depending on which launchpad--it can be up to a minute or two before we can see it.

You just need a clear sky and if you are game to get over their early--jetty park is supposed to be a very nice location...it is near Port Canaveral.

It's going to be a night launch, I believe. Lucky you! Lisa gave my answer. I can watch it from my family room. :teeth:

I also wanted to add that NASA is now considering moving the launch to December 6.

That would be so awesome! If you are leaving WDW for the launch I would recommend Tuitusville. We saw a nighttime shuttle launch from there 17 years ago and it was breath taking! How do you know launch dates for our future trips?

I thought I just saw an article that said that NASA was not going to do anymore nighttime shuttle launches because they want to keep a close eye on the foam insulation on the external fuel tank and that it would be difficult (impossible???) to do that a night.

We saw the July 4th launch of the shuttle from EPCOT this summer. It was an awesome sight. I'll be arriving in Orlando on the morning of December 7th. It would be great to see another shuttle launch (assuming that they don't move it back to the 6th).

NASA cleared the shuttle for night launches after the last launch. It feels it has the foam issues under control and it feels the in-space monitoring will be sufficient. :) NASA also cleared the shuttle to go back the Hubble telescope to service it in a future mission (probably early 2008). :thumbsup2

Does anyone know how close NASA will let people get to the launches? I was thinking they had an area at the space center that was pretty close, would love to go.

The closest people can get is 3-miles but that is media, workers, etc (not the public). Here is information on viewings on KSC grounds that is six miles away (launch viewing tickets): http://www.ksctickets.com/ltt.html
