Does anyone take naps while on their cruise? I am a napper. I could easily sleep 3+ hours in the afternoon if I let myself. If I'm in the cabin in the afternoon, I'm going to want to lie down, and if I lie down I'm going to fall asleep. I feel on the one hand this is a waste of precious time. But on the other hand, it's my vacation, I have a hard enough time relaxing, I shouldn't feel bad if I want to catch a little afternoon nap. What do you think? Naps or no naps?

Ironically on my first Disney Cruise we would walk several miles on the deck that goes completely around the ship and I would question how people could nap in those lounge chairs on that deck with all the people walking/running around. Then 1 day after our walk we decided to sit in those chairs and 2 hours later after I WOKE up, I no longer questioned how anyone could sleep in those chairs! :P

We usually take breaks on a cruise, sometimes we do actually nap.
But we spend some time in the cabin in the afternoon, especially on sea days.

When I'm on a cruise or any vacation for that matter I typically overdo it by getting up early (between 4-6AM) and staying up late (midnight or later). Doing this forces me to take a nap or two while I'm on a cruise especially on sea days. I will typically nap either lounging by the pool, the cove café or sometimes in my stateroom.

My DH is a member of the Happy Napper Club. Usually between 2-4 in the afternoon. Just enough to re-energize for dinner and the evening entertainment.
Me, I'm bouncing around the ship from 0600 til I crash in bed after the show and a stroll around the top deck.

I've never been able to take a nap in my life, but my Fiance loves naps. He usually takes a nap in the afternoon when we are on vacation and has definitely done that while we were on the cruise. I either go explore the ship or watch a movie while he's napping. It's your vacation you should do whatever makes you happiest. There is no right or wrong way to vacation.

That's one reason I appreciated my MIL pointing out that traveling and vacationing are two different things. I tend to travel, and really fill up our days accordingly. But if I'm actually on the ship, not in port, that's vacation and naps are entirely legit.

If you want to take a nap, take a nap. Why worry so much about what other people think?

Worrying about wasting time isn't the same as worrying about what other people think. I constantly worry about whether I'm maximizing my trip but it has nothing to do with anyone else.

But if the point of a vacation is to chill, do what makes you happy. I would rather relax and know I had a good vacation than be so stressed about “OMG I MIGHT MISS SOMETHING!!!” (spoiler alert: you will, you cannot do it all) that I am grumpy and exhausted when I get home.

It's just not easy for some of us to determine in the moment what is a good balance. Or even what will make us happiest. I pretty much always end up wishing I'd relaxed a little less and done a little more.

I get what you're saying. Sounds like you want to get "value" out of your cruise. :cutie: For us, a luscious nap here and there on a cruise is a slice of heaven! Took a couple on our Fantasy cruise in early September! ::yes::

I live for naps...however on my first and only cruise (only 4 days) I didnt take a single nap and I didnt miss it one bit. There was so much to see and do so I never thought about a nap. If my cruise was longer then maybe I would have found time to nap. Try not to think about it, if you feel like taking one then take one, if you are like me and find too much to do and not get a chance to nap then so be it. For the record I think I would have felt like I missed something if I did take a nap.

I think for first time cruisers and/or shorter cruises, this could apply to a lot of folks. We prefer at least 7 night cruises, so we do not feel the same pressure to "do it all" that we have on the occasions we have done shorter itineraries. :cutie:

In general I don't really need to nap but on a vacation I'm not gonna fight the urge to if I feel fatigued and my body is telling me to take a nap. Especially on a cruise. I mean, I can see a case for pushing through fatigue at the parks, but on a ship I'm not concerned about rushing to or missing an activity.

I get that people are concerned about "maximizing value/return" on a cruise, but for me I do that by doing whatever increases my enjoyment, and that usually means engaging (ahem) "cruise control" and not trying to do everything at once. Those folk that engage their inner Barry Allen on board and try do do everything - good on ya. You have my respect, but it's just not me.

TL;DR: I take naps. Hakuna Mutata.

I say if you enjoy napping, go for it! It's your vacation, do what makes you happy!

I usually doze off for a bit while sitting out in the sun. I actually try to because I know if I don't I will be exhausted in the clubs at night (Im usually in bed by 9:00 at home, LOL) Since my DS has been in the teen years, and stays out pretty much all night on the ship, I have found he spends most of the day sleeping. :faint:
