We'll be taking our girls (1 and almost 3) to WDW for the first time on Feb 1, 2014. Are there any good places in or around the MK where we can go for some quiet/nap time during the day without leaving completely to go back to our hotel? Both of my girls have successfully napped at the Grand Californian in the lobby/fireplace area at Disneyland, so I know it can be done in a public place.

Thanks

You could try the people mover (my dd fell asleep once on it and they let us just stay on it, until we wanted off - we probably did about 4 rotations). You could do C.O.P. -it's not exactly quiet, but it's 25 mins. indoors and I'm sure you could stay and do another loop if you wanted...same would probably be true of Hall of Presidents. You could also go over to Tom Sawyer Island, as I'm sure you'd be able to find a quiet bench. The Terrace spot in between Tomorrowland and the Plaza is covered, almost never busy and is pretty quiet.

You could also take a few loops on the monorail, or go to one of the surround resorts by monorail or boat (Contemporary, Poly, Grand Floridian, or Wilderness Lodge) and I'm sure you could find some quiet area's to sit/rest for a while.

Hall of presidents!! Lol the movie in France..

Sept 2013 Poly, 2012 Disney Fantasy, BC CL, GF CL, POR, 2011 Poly CL, CR, Poly CL, AKL, 2010 Poly CL, ASMu 2009, SSR 2008, Pop 2006, POR , Asmo 2005, Asmo 2003, offsite 2000, 1999,1989, Poly 1980, offsite 1979

We don't have small children in our party, but we adults had a nice little nap in the Grand Floridian lobby the last time we stayed there. We were waiting for our room to be ready and were exhausted from the early flight down. There are couches and chairs to relax in. If you are willing to leave the MK, that might be a good option for you.

I've seen quite a few people say that their kids adapted very quickly to taking their naps in strollers while they toured the park!

Going the first week of february, you probably have a bit more flexibility b/c lower crowds - so the prior suggestion of tomorrowland people mover might be a good option - tney will likely let you stay on. A similar option would be the wdw train that circles the whole park, and tne suggestion of the monorail is also a good one, although I might suggest that ratehr than just circling, getting off at the poly and finding a relatively secluded bench or area of beach (assuming the poly is not having loud construction). Another favorite of ours for quiet/rest time - although likely not an actual nap - is the main tomorrowland counter service - cosmic ray's. Especially at off-peak times, like early feb, if you go in there after lunch crowd surge (likely same time you would want nap- like 1 or 2 pm), it will likely be uncrowded and quiet, and the animatronic alien lounge singer is surprisingly very pleasant mellow music. We have avoided a few near meltdowns by going in there, buying some fries, and letting the guys nibble while they sit there almost transfixed/hypnotized by the music. As others noted, you could probably also find some shade on tom sawyers island. There is even a nice picnic area that used to have an open restaurant that sold traditional southern snack/light lunch food, but that closed a few years ago, but the picnic area still open.

I recommend the hall of presidents, dark and AC (although not an issue prob in Feb!) After our little ones fall asleep there we put them in the stroller and stroll around relaxing for awhile!

I did laps with the stroller in innoventions until my oldest fell asleep at 15mos.

There is a small movie theater all the way in the back of the camera shop near Main Street. I used to take both of my boys there to nap. There is never anybody around, it is air conditioned, and you can watch the old Disney films like Steamboat Willie while they nap. It is truly a hidden gem for getting away from the crowds!

For our most recent trip my youngest nephew napped thru Tiki Room and Carousel of Progress. CM's let me stay for multiple shows/rotations. I may or may not have fallen asleep myself during the second round of CoP :rotfl2: The music has never bothered him and both are cool and dark and are prime nap spots.

Last June I found a quiet, shaded spot right off Main St. to park the stroller while both nephews napped. I sat down on the sidewalk and less than 5 minutes later the big wooden doors opened and out came a marching band. I said, "Are you serious?" before I could stop myself. The drum major kept the band quiet until they passed the stroller and the boys never stirred. Still one of my favorite Disney memories.

That's one of the best stories I've heard on here! :thumbsup2

I would also recommend Hall of Presidents and Carousel of Progress at MK. However, beware that the show might also put you to beddie-bye. Cosmic Ray's, with a drink and snack, listening to animatronic lounge singer Sonny Eclipse, is indeed nice. But not at rush time. At Epcot, Universe of Energy is about 45 min long, dark and cool. I agree the Epcot Innovations buildings could be a good choice.

lol -- The Hall of Presidents are Carousel of Progress were going to be what I recommended too. Last time I did the Carousel of Progress I feel asleep for the whole ride too.

Not any more. That theater was closed in 2011 when they moved Mickey, Minnie and the Princesses in for their meet and greets.

The Rose Garden near the Castle is away from the commotion. Outdoors, but the weather should be nice in Feb. There are a number of gardens throughout the World showcase...if you have nice weather and low crowds. Enjoy!

In MK, the hub in front of the castle has six directions. Maine Street, Adventureland, Tommorowland and the Castle entrance to Fantasyland are the main four spokes. The other two are rarely used by the mainstream. However, when you use the one that takes you back towards Haunted mansion, when you cross the moat there was a bench or two there that was shaded. We used to put the twins in their strollers when they were tired and walk to that spot. We would take turns watching the boys and taking my daughter to the HM or FL.

Google magic kingdom satelite view and you will see where I mean.
