Anyone been recently? I would like to know what's currently on the menu...

We did it a year ago, and it seemed to me like everyone got different food (none of my courses or my husbands courses were the same). We didn't have a written menu for anything other than dessert.

It changes all the time and is, in part, based on the preferences of the individual. When my wife and I were there a couple years ago we each got different dishes with every course. So much fun!

You just tell them what you like and what you don't like and they will customize a menu for each individual. We did get a couple items that were on the menu, but several of the things we got were not on the menu. It's really fun to get something that you love that you would never have thought of ordering!

This may be a silly question but when they asked you what you liked what did you say? I don’t know what to say and don’t want to appear silly!

Did you just tell them the kinds of meat and veg/sides you like?

There’s really not a lot I don’t like but don’t want to appear vague to them either!

Thanks!

We've been a couple times and when they ask what you would like, they mentioned a few special ingredients that they had that day (or season). They always have salmon, chicken and steak but they will, depending upon the season, offer lamb or scallops or special desserts.

I tend to go more with what I don't like. I don't like game meats, I don't care for fish, but I do like shellfish, I don't like spicy, but I like flavor.

When we went my ex husband's son told them he didn't like tomatoes. I told them I didn't like rubbery seafood. We all got different dishes, definitely the best meal I've ever had Disneyland though.

Good advice.
We tell tell them no quail or rock dove (pigeon).

Just to clarify to the OP: Napa Rose has a Chef's Counter, rather than a Table. The arrangement is similar to sitting at a bar, and talking with the bartender.

Very good point. This is important to note -- This is the Chef's COUNTER. For those who have difficulty/cannot sit at a bar/on a barstool, this might not be the best option. This is not a TABLE with chairs. If you need to sit at a table with chairs, you can order the Vintner's Menu, which is a tasting menu that changes weekly. This can be ordered with or without a wine flight. The flight can be customized to your taste.

This is a good point. It makes it much easier to book than the Chefs Table at V&A at Disney World, because more than one party can book it per night (if I remember correctly they have about 14 seats). Also, not every seat has the same view of the kitchen, so I think it's worth asking about your seat location when you book.

Definitely tell them your preferences but be open to new foods! I am NOT a fan of sushi (can't get beyond the fact that the fish is raw) but I was served yellow tail hamachi and it was one of the best things I ate all night. Also, I'm not a huge wine drinker but chose to do the pairing and let the sommelier know that I was a novice, and he chose the wines accordingly. It was one of the best moments I've ever had at Disneyland. Enjoy!

You can request certain seats, e.g. dessert counter, when you book, but you will be told that there are no guarantees. Usually, CMs will do their best to accommodate your requests, but be aware that you still might be seated elsewhere at the counter.

What are the best seats? When we were last there I seem to remember two counters (am I remembering this correctly?) We were seated at the one looking directly into the middle of the kitchen, rather than off to the side. How do we request that section? What do I ask for? Thanks for any help you can provide!

The seats off the the far right side (facing the kitchen) are the dessert counter. When you make your reservation, just ask to be seated at the dessert counter. You'll get to see the plates prepared for birthdays and anniversaries. If you're lucky, you'll get to see a plate prepared for a proposal!

We were at the Dessert Counter for one of those and witnessed the whole process...it was fun to see what they came up with and we had a view of their table to see the presentation and proposal.

I too just say a few dislikes and am open to new things. Usually get things I would have never ordered bit end up enjoying.

Used to be on of my favorite dining experiences...last few times we were pretty underwhelmed with food and interaction. They say they cater to your tastes, but unless you make some specific requests they really do just throw some combinations together from a bunch of pre determined options. We just opt for regular reservations now.

Definitely send in a comment about this. We've noticed that since there have been a few changes to the kitchen staff that things have been uneven. There have been some changes, too, to the front of house staff and to the wait staff. This has affected the efficiency of the service in some ways. We've been willing to give the new CMs a chance to settle in, so we'll wait to see if things improve. If not, the comments will get sent. So far, we've only had to say something to the CMs at NR that we already know to get things remedied on the spot, but please send in a comment about your experiences so that NR management knows what's going on and can keep a closer eye on things.

This was a change made about a year ago if I remember right. No ordering off the menu at the counter, and the chefs select items on the menu to alter to your taste.

We haven't been there since that change, but even if they are choosing mainly from or altering items from the menu, keep in mind that this is a multi-course meal with a whole lot of different food. It's not like you get an appetizer, dinner and dessert. You get a bunch of tastings along with one main dish and dessert. I don't remember for sure how many courses we had, but it seems like it was at least 6.

And I agree, it's not so much "what do you like" as "what do you NOT like?" I didn't mention a few things I don't normally order at restaurants and got one or two of them ... but I was really glad because they were good! The only thing I think I said I didn't like was raw oysters and uni. :)

That I knew...just seems last few times when we all said “ship it” is was nothing special or very creatively paired. Felt like they just kinda shoveled out random items from a preset list of options
