NAP ZONES... I personally don't this this is silly but....

We found the Universe of Energy works well also for this. Dark, mostly a reasonable volume (except for the dinosaur portion) and 40 blissful air-conditioned minutes long... Ahhhhh. Get a back row where no one wants to sit and you're set.

LOL. Thanks for the tip!

I think most people and children need some "chill" time. I myself like to travel back to the resort for a swim. I think if there were a "chill" spot for folks to lounge...it wouldn't matter if the kids were being noisy...it would be like at the beach... Many people nap there with plenty of noise all around...it just sort of blends into one giant ocean of noise. I love the comment about the Carousel of Progress nap....good idea! I think most people just figure it out. It's good folks are thinking about rest times, otherwise you just get too exhausted by the end of your trip. Keepin' the peaceful vibe...in the midst of chaos, high energy and EXTREME happiness! I'm lovin' it!

I saw a post the other day where someone said it was "gross" that people were laying out on the grass. Idk how someone could think it's gross - maybe they've never lived in or visited a city where it's pretty common (like NYC, Boston, and I'm sure many, many others). I'll happily let my kids take a break there.

Wherever we are in public, we generally try to find an out-of-the-way spot to let our kids rest. Luckily, both have always been perfectly capable of sleeping in their strollers (and DD no longer naps), and neither require quiet to sleep. I'd personally find having to go back to the resort to rest to be a huge bother, but I'm sure some people enjoy the break.

I understand you completely TXAK. That's why I noted that I really DON'T think this idea is utterly silly. As well I noted that I'm sure that there are indeed times when people NEED to or SHOULD take the break at their resorts. Whatever works for you. But I have heard so many people say they don't like to lose the time to go back to their hotels and come back again. People who have limited time may not want to return to their resorts. And people like me (even if I have a lot of time) may just want about an HOURS rest or nap and why should I trek it all the way back to my resort. I think Disney wins either way... especially if they supply any time of blanket, lawnchair, snack etc.

Yes, there are certainly time where I dont just want a mere nap. Ijust want to relax (PERIOD!) at my resort. Sit by the pool. Watch tv. Whatever. Certainly going back to your resort for that makes sense... and thank God for the Disney transport system that allows us to do that in a timely enough fashion and letting them do the driving.

If you designate something as a "rest zone" people are going to expect it to be quiet. If you start selling snacks for the people in the rest zone who don't want to rest, then you get the complaints from the people who expect quiet.

Disney knows people rest on attractions, but someone can't complain that they couldn't nap on the peoplemover because the soundtrack was too loud. You knew the risk when you chose to use that attraction as rest time.

I can agree with that as well. The idea would certainly require fine-tuning.

Haha, I walked up, saw so many and immediately I had flashed back in to Central Park. Yes it is very common in other parts of the country, in NYC it is part of your social life, it's your backyard. I have no issues with it but since it's a summer destination, aka summer clothes, I can see where we might start running into issues with exposing.... particularly if someone actually falls asleep and is unaware. But hey, it will be good for a thread or two.

I wonder how many people will find it restful to sit without shade in the middle of summer, to hot for me.

Even if it's not strictly a place to nap, having a place to sit and stretch your legs would be welcome. If I had an infant (or otherwise young enough child that they couldn't get out of their stroller and walk to stretch their legs), I'd love to have a place to let them crawl or roll around. I'm sure sitting in a stroller all day isn't fun, and obviously infants can't crawl around the crowded park pathways.

A few years ago I was SO TIRED in MK after being up for 22 hours the day before getting like 4.5 hours of sleep and hitting the parks again I made up a new ride. It is called " The Nap" it is a 30 minute ride where you lay down on the ride vehicle, and are whisked away Peter Pan style through a gentle slumber of soft music and then white noise and dark. The ride lasts 30 minutes. Can you imagine? I would FP plus the HECK out of that. It would be HUGELY profitable because people would stay in the park and not go back to there resort if they could FP plus " The Nap" around 2 or 3pm. Then they would get off and the dump shop would be a Starbucks! PERFECT. People would spend more time and $$ in the park. Disney would have to run less mid day busses back and forth to parks and everyone would be happy as hell. They could also offer noise cancelling headphones on " The Nap".

You said it!

My husband calls the hall of Presidents and the CoP his nap zone in MK. I've tried but I just can't nap in an attraction. Plus they aren't long enough for me - just about the time I do start to drift off they are over with.

I love the idea of nap zones but don't see how Disney could keep them cleaned and disinfected and get people moving in a specific amount of time.

I think it depends on your acceptable level of "quiet". The problem I see with a quiet zone is that it would pretty much need to be adults only. Kids are going to be loud. Just the way it is, and I can't see Disney plopping in a quiet zone that doesn't allow kids.

I would love to make use of an area like that if it existed though. :)

You know, I'm sure if they really wanted to, they could find some space in one of the empty or underused Futureworld buildings to put in some nap pods like they have at airports. That'd even make them money.

On the sleeping <> spending money issue, like in many areas of life, a well-timed rest can power you up for a lot more productive time. Power nap = able to go another few hours (with resultant spending) where exhaustion = go home and crash!

I certainly agree. Makes sense.

There ya go! Exactly!
