My great-grandmother died when I was 15 months old. (After learning she had breast cancer just 6 months earlier) She was the matriarch of my family. I think all families have that one special person who everyone connects with everyone and for mine she was it. My Nanny, her only daughter, was devastated by the loss (naturally) and even 30 years later mourns for the entire fall and early winter as that was when her Mother was sick. I wanted to make Nanny a really special mother's day gift because she and I are very close, and have a very unique relationship. Unfortunately back in those days my family did not take a lot of photos, so I did not have enough photos for a whole scrapbook so I framed one page...and I am thrilled with it! It was one of those pages that I was putting off because I did not want to mess it up, but I prayed for God to guide my hands and my great Grandmother to rest on my shoulder. Here it is...

Here is a close up of some of the details...Can you believe this is Michael's $.59 paper?! I cut the butterflies free from the paper a bit to give them some dimension. The lock and key are the Grungeboard from Tuesday Morning (thank you for that tip!). The signature in the middle of the page is my great grandmother's. I scanned a card that my Nanny has. I cannot wait to see everyone's reaction on Sunday! :flower3:

Oh I think it's perfect. Who very sweet of you to make that for her. This is a hard holiday for a lot of people.

That is PERFECT!!!

Butterflies are a very important symbol too.... they symbolize life and that family is always with us.... My BFF gave my DD a butterfly necklace when our Granny passed (her Great-Granny) and explained that to my DD...

Your Nanny is going to love it. I didn't notice at first her writing, what a terrific thing to put on the layout.

Wonderful, wonderful job. :goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes

Thank you for all the compliments! She loved it and of course she cried. One of the first things she said was, "That is her writing!" (referring to the signature I pulled from the card)...so here is my plug...write and journal on your layouts, someday, someone will cherish it!

P.S. She got it Sunday evening, and by yesterday afternoon it was hanging on the wall in the living room! :thumbsup2

What a touching story! Your Nanny will be very thankful for this gift.

My inlaws past away in 2003 (FIL in June & MIL in August) almost 2 months to the day. My husband was a mess losing his mom and like you I didn't have many photos of them growing up but I did what I could. I made each of my BIL's a book and my husband a special one too. They all were extremely thankful for it and were touched very deeply.

You are a very thoughtful granddaughter. God Bless you.
