Nanny Question

Is anyone here a nanny or employ a nanny? I was just asked to be a nanny for a month and then asked what the going rate was. I have NO IDEA what the going rate is...would it be the same as babysitting? please help!

Ok, about 5 years ago, my beginning rate was $10/hour. If they wanted me for emergencies.. (they were both doctors) they usually gave me about 15-20 an hour, plus time and travel


But I had experience (my own kids), CPR certified, AED certified, worked in preschools, and most importantly, a big enough car to cart them all around

well...i have experience (i've babysat since i was 13) and I worked in a daycare center for about 2 years. would more experience make for a pricier me?

Are you CPR certified? That was the biggie for my doctors... (consider the source)

Do you have a clear background check? I also had that as well clear Police/and child abuse check..


Word of warning... be prepared for longer than anticipated hours, not many breaks, and quick changes all around.

i'll be working for my neighbor and i've already said yes, my neighbors only concern is what the going rate is.

I was a nanny in college. I can't remember for sure what I made. I think it was around $7.50, but it could have been higher. Definitely not lower. That was in 1995-1996. I was a student at the time and worked about 20 hours/week in the afternoons. The parents both worked from home and were there while I was working. They paid double time when I worked weekends and holidays. I think I got paid extra when I worked nights, too.

I would say 10.00 if not 12.00 is the going rate now. Good luck!
