I have an annual pass burning a hole in my pocket, if you know what I mean. I'm a sixty year old Nana that visits Disneyland resort a few times a year with my son and his family. BUT- I'm thinking of a four day trip by myself. It would require a six hour drive, and a four night stay in a hotel. I would really, really love some tips and ideas. I'm trying to convince my hubby as well. He's not a fan...

My in-laws are in their mid-60s and they love going on their own. It's probably at least a 6 or 7 hour drive for them. They stay offsite, usually Fairfield Inn, Tropicana, or Candy Cane because they don't want to have to ride ART and anything outside that radius isn't that comfortable a walking distance for them.

They like taking things slow, enjoying the ambiance, riding RSR, skipping the roller coasters. :-) They also enjoy taking time to eat at the grown-up places like Carthay Circle Lounge. They mix things up a bit too by taking in a movie and/or visiting ESPNZone or another downtown Disney restaurant or going to an Angels game so that while they get a lot of Disney, they aren't doing Disney 24/7. Would your husband be more interested in accompanying you if you worked in one or two of those less Disneyish things?

I forgot about the ESPN Zone! Great selling point...and he loves movies too.

No annual pass but I usually get at least one trip a year. When I go, I take 2 to 4 grandkids with me for at least four days.
Since my husband doesn't fly and isn't a Disney nut, he stays home. I've considered a solo trip too. I'll be watching to see the "Solo Tips".

The last time I convinced my hubby, who is also not a fan, to go was for the 50th. We did have a good time, but I so much prefer going without him. Even though he is a really good sport there still were quite a few compromises about what to do, where to eat, when to leave, what to ride, etc. And that really is the beauty of all solo trips -- no compromises!! It's really nice to go at your own pace and take in all the details that you might miss when you're not alone.
Tips? I like taking a camera and taking lots of pictures. Explore all the stores, try attractions/shows that you've never done or seen before. Take advantage of single rider. Do your favorites over and over.

HA! I know exactly what you mean! This is my first year with an AP and I am seriously looking for any excuse to use it!

I have been on one solo trip so far and will be going solo for the 24hr celebration on May 22nd. I LOVE going solo! My advice would be to stay as close to the parks as you can. If not onsite, then one of the motels across from the Habor Blvd. entrance. I have stayed at the Tropicana twice now and I like it. It's no frills, but the location is great and you can usually find good deals on Orbitz or Cheaptickets with their promo codes. It's just so nice to know you can go back to the room whenever you want and don't have to worry coming back late at night because it's always busy over there.

I would also consider doing a walking tour. I haven't done one yet, but I'd like to. This is something I would not normally be able to do if I was with my family. Think of those sorts of things that you know others may not enjoy but you would. For example, I'm taking DS7 in June, but he will not do the "big" rides so that is what I will focus on for my May trip. And SHOPPING! I LOVE going through all the shops, but the men in my life do not appreciate that :)

Have fun!!

Yes! I may be doing a solo trip (down there for a tradeshow) in February and this may be the biggest thing I'm looking forward to! If I want to spend and hour in Disney Showcase or Crystal Arts I can!

I was starting to look forward to the solo trip, but my hubby changed his mind and is coming with me. He's even getting Park Hopper tickets! Knock me over with a feather. I guess he was afraid of my solo shopping excursions. Not likely to happen when he's looking over my shoulder... But I'm glad he's coming. I'm going to convert him to a Disney fan yet!

I am taking my first solo Trip in December... (4th - 12th). I am going to be ordering my very first annual pass soon, because I will be visiting again in Oct 2016 for Halloween!!

I can not wait to be able to do the things I want to do, see the things I want to see, and all at my own pace!!! I already have a room reserved across the street from the parks. But like others, I'm interested in the tips and tricks of a solo trip...

Will definitely be using single rider lines A LOT!!!!
