DD's name is Violet and the first response I always hear is "Oh, my great-great-whatever was named Violet!"

So I guess it's an old lady name.

(coincidentally about a year after DD was born, my dad remembered that his aunt's name is Violet... DD met her at our family reunion this year & both Violets were quite smitten with each other. )
