Hello All. Am filling out paperwork now and had a question. I had originally only put my name on deed but am now wondering if I should put my DW on it as well? I didn't think about it until now...does it make a difference on access or making reservations?

Thanks!

Your should consider adding DW to you deed. Anyone on the deed can make reservations, bank and borrow points. Life would be easier.

Enjoy your membership!

Couldn't making someone an associate [which can be done or changed anytime] also accomplish reservations, banking, etc.? I would think the biggest reason would be for inheritance sake and (sorry to say) potential 'bad' things like divorce or otherwise being forced to sell...

As you may know, you can't sell part of a contract {split 50/50...}; that is why many people have things written as multiple small contracts so if nessecary you could sell one and keep another -or- leave one to child A and the other to child B.

And member benefits. The way I understand it, if your wife is not on the deed she cannot take advantage of member benefits - like even the DVC discounted annual pass, etc.

A spouse or other "relative" as defined by DVC can take advantage of the AP discount assuming they have the same home address as a valid member and can document same. Still, I think it's best to list spouses in most situations.

And what happens if you pass on? Having DW on the deed makes sense.

Oops, that's right. I'm adding my sister on the deed (different address) she'll be with me most often but has a different address, and my DH didn't care if she's on it. He's on it too, but doesn't like disney.
thanks Dean

I'm leaving DW off for now, although I may change my mind before I finally sign the paperwork. I have been told that I need to be present for her to have access to all the DVC perks, but I just can't see her going without me.

I'm not an attorney. Depending on the state, one might not be able to sell without the spouse signing off on it even if not on the deed. And in many states it'd go to the spouse unless directed otherwise. Asking one's estate attorney could be a good idea before making such a decision.

Based on everyone's comments I added my DW today when I gave my guide all the information. I could have added her as an associate which would allow her to make reservations but in order to get the discount for AP's she had to be on the deed. According to my guide, only those individuals on the deed and minor children are able to get the discounted annual passes.

Just keep in mind that by including your sister on the deed, her ownership will affect your ownership if she is affected by things such as divorce, bankruptcy or credit issues, etc. The property can be awarded to someone else in a judgement or possibly force a sale. I would consider it carefully before adding anyone other than a spouse.

My DD's are over 21, live at home, and purchase the DVC discounted AP's every year when we go.
