It was a book about a very tightly-wound guy whose son was murdered, marriage fell apart and he fell in love with a tacky, wacky redhead chick.
He hated to travel, so he wrote travel books for others who shared his distaste for it, so that they'd feel more at home in foreign countries. This meant he was always traveling.
They made a movie of it. I *think* that William Hurt played him and Geena Davis played the woman he fell for. The movie wasn't really very good.
The only names I remember are his son (Ethan), sister (Rose), publisher...no wait, I don't remember his name...Julian???...the publisher's boat was called "Sukie." So odd that I remember his publisher's boat's name and not the main character. Ugh. I also remember that they did not answer the phone, which was the funniest "scene" in the book and the reason I'm trying to remember it's title.
The book was really good.
Help!
