I doubt it'd be a problem and it certainly can be used as a positive. "Buy here so you get priority."
From what I hear on these boards, it seems that one thing the Guides not only tell prospectives buyers, but seem to STRESS, is that if you buy at resort XXX you can stay at resort ZZZ with no problem. I think flexibility is a key part of their sales pitch.

This has been true as long as I've been aware of the DIS and DVC Guides. So this is not singling out SSR. We heard the same pitch while they were selling VB & HH (yes, that was a BIG part of the pitch for those resort sales) as well as VWL and BCV.

Since we are not very worried about which room we get at a DVC resort (except it must be non-smoking), it really isn't that big of a deal to me. But it just seems right that home resort owners should move ahead of anyone else when it comes to requests. Just my opinion. YMMV. :)

Sorry: It appears that I've contributed to taking this thread :offtopic:

I read this post a couple days ago and have been thinking about it. I know DVC can't give stuff away that it doesn't have. I don't need a bunch of free stuff anyway, but I would like a bit of personal attention. Something more than the average visitor who may or may not return. A note from my guide upon check in welcoming us home. Instead of that maybe a call while we're their just to say hi. An e-mail on our birthdays. I don't know, just something that reminds me that I own a bit of something special. That means more to me than some free swag.

Which brings up the interesting issue of how many people buy at a resort with the intent of staying there the majority of the time (in which case "priority" would be a value) vs. how many buy at a resort with the intent of staying at other resorts the majority of the time (in which case Granny's "scraps" comment comes into play).
Hard to know. Only DVC would have that information at this point. But the real question isn't so much the percentage but the differential. It seems obvious, even though some don't want to admit it, that owners at certain resorts are significantly more likely to be active at the 7 month window than owners at other resorts.

There's no question it happens. I think you've heard it a lot in the last few years because in large part it's been VB, HH and SSR for sale, resorts where owners are more likely to buy to use elsewhere a larger percentage of the time than some others.
