Name restaurants adult allowed to order from kids menu

I have read varying accounts of adults ordering from kid's menus. I've personally experienced being pleasantly allowed to order (for my teens) from the kids menu, and also being denied...sometimes rudely. Most of the time my teens order from the adult menu; I'm just trying to figure out the reasoning why some allow it and some don't. Please tell me your experiences at particular Disney table service restaurants.

You'd do better to ask where people have been denied - that would be a smaller list. We've not had an issue since my son turned 10 a few trips ago, anywhere.

Non-Disney owned restaurants are most likely the places you would run into more issues.

True, I should have asked it that way. We were denied at La Hacienda & The Plaza restaurant. Perhaps La Hacienda was because it's not Disney owned. Maybe Plaza was becuase of a cranky CM?

We've had very good luck with our pre-teens ordering from the children's menu. Our APs expired recently - we had the TIW card and two ADRs per day over five visits. So we've had lots of experience over the past year - all positive! I could try to list the restaurants, but there are so many!

I'm not sure, but I'm guessing La Hacienda was a CM issue, because all of our boys ordered from the kids' menu in February with no problems. Our oldest rarely orders from the kids' menu, but did so here - with lots of add-ons and modifications. The CM was great. I'm so disappointed to hear about hannahryan's experience because La Hacienda is an important one to us - I really hope we don't have trouble in the future! Plaza would be OK for us because we could make it work (even for our pickiest pre-teen) without the kids' menu!

This probably wont' help but reading the boards, I've seen where people have been permitted to do so at certain restaurants one day and then someone else was denied at the same restaurant on another day. It can totally depend on who you ask, and when.

I'm happy to hear you've had so many positive experiences! We have AP's and TIW too, but haven't had as much experience with ordering from kid's menu. Don't worry about La Hacienda. We tried it in November and we may have had an inexperienced server since they were pretty new at that point. After hearing about your postive results, we will try again when we go back in 2 weeks.

Two trips ago we were at Sci-Fi and there was a car of six young adults (maybe late teens) next to us and they all wanted to order kids' meals. The waitress hesitated for a minute then said there would be a surcharge because they were over the age. I think in the end they shared burgers. Not sure if this is SOP there or just because it was an entire party trying to all get kids' meals.:confused3

I only had an issue once. I just went with it and ordered off of the adult menu. When they saw that I only ate about 1/4 of the meal, the manager brought the check and told me that they were comping my meal. I didn't ask for the comp or complain. Guess they just didn't want people to see me eating from the Mickey plate, lol.

I'll also chime in that Tutto's is the only place my DS14 was not allowed to order from the kids' meal. However the waiter did find him a comparable meal on the adult menu and then they modified it taking out the ingredients he didn't like.

Regarding La Hacienda, we were there a couple of weeks ago and DS asked to see a kids meal but decided he didn't want to eat. The waiter gave him a kids menu with no questions so I assume it would have been ok for him to order.

Some places we have ordered off the kids menu as grown ups are: Brown Derby, Narcoosee's, and 50's PTC. We also were allowed to have the kids selection at Garden Grill and Cinderella's Royal Table even though we had paid the adult price.

We are planning a trip in August and after looking at the Allears menus I imagine he will want to order from the kids menu at Marrakesh and Saana.

Hope you have good luck with this!

My best guess is that it has to do with the CM. Either they don't know if it's allowed, or they simply want to pad their tip by making you order the more expensive meal.

I've never heard about any policy that forbids the practice. If there is one, there's very little enforcement.

ordered off the kids menu at CRT (dinner), Narcoosees, Yachtsman Steakhouse, Coral Reef, 50's Prime Time, Brown Derby. I think she ate off the adult menu at Tony's, and I know she ate off the adult menu at Kona. (Her choice, though.)
