Name of a book?

I am trying to remember the name of a book I read about 20 some years ago. It was about a bus load of children that were kidnapped and held by their captors. It was a very disturbing book and not one that I want to read again, but I had a dream about it last night for some reason. It is bugging me that I can not remember the title. I thought it was "Hide the Children" or something like that, but I can not find it on Indigo.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? Anyone know the actually title? It was from sometime in the 80's. I don't know who the author is.

is it the one with a clown or something like that involved...meaning a person dressed as a clown that kidnapped hte bus?

Yes, it was based on a true story that happened in Chowchilla, (California, I think). I never read the book, so don't know the name. However, there was a movie made about it called: They've Taken Our Children: The Chowchilla Kidnapping. It was a 1993 TV movie. Maybe the book had the same name?

I think it might of been based on a true story, Dawn.

Chell, I hope I don't have any more disturbing dreams like that too. It was quite awful. It might of been triggered by the Russia situation.

Blueeyes, yes I think I remember that one of the kidnappers was dressed as a clown. there were 3 kidnappers all together.

CDobbee, I can't find a book listed by that name. This book would of beena very graphic and horrific, terrible ordeal. Not sure if they would of been able to make this one into a movie. It might be a different one.

Yes, blueeyes! Thank-you, that is the one I was thinking off. A most terrible story. Now my brain can stop thinking!
