Name for Kid's Consignment Sale? Help!

Great ideas - keep them coming!
Once and Again was the name that I came up with 2 years ago when I started thinking about starting this.
We were thinking 70/30 split on the consignment and see how it goes. Any thoughts on how to get the word out? Obviously word of mouth, but I was thinking of visiting the preschools and daycares in the area. We were also considering sending out save the date postcards/flyers because the first sale would be in March for a spring/summer sale.

Thanks again!

I don't know where you are located but there is a website called bargain watcher that has a consignment list for all states. I live outside Atlanta, Ga. and I know all of the consignments sales around here use that website for promotion.

Check out www.thekidssale.com. This is one in my area. It cost's $10 to consign and if you tag your own items you get 70%. She will tag them for you and then you get 40%.

I tagged my own stuff and I just made $400 last week at the sale. But I think 40% for her to do all the work is a bargain as well.

Some of the names around here are:

Reruns for Wee Ones
Growing Like Weeds
Dittos for Kiddos
Wee Swap

Love this idea. Can someone please explain the basic concept? I think I got it (it's basically a "nice" yard sale inside correct)? This sounds like something I would love to go to but like PPs can't find anything in my area. I'm not above starting one but having never been, I think I'm in a little over my head at this point. I have a friend that does websites so I would have help there. I'm going to check out a couple of the other websites mentioned to see if this is even something that I can do...I tend to be overly ambitious

TIA! Sorry for hijacking the thread!

we have several around here and a few of them do charge $5 fee to each person ....
upscale weesale
trendy tots
huge kids sale
lollipop kids
for every season
cow jumped over the moon

not sure if there are copyright laws/rules but i think they are all cute names!

do you have any local mom's groups or clubs? i know that would be a great way to get your name out ...maybe offer some incentives to the first sale?
www.themommiesnetwork.com has sites all over the country ... is there one near you?

i know the biggest problem some of these face is the volunteers sign up and get the pre-sale but then do not show up for work! you could solve this by allowing them to pick out merchandise, but not pay for it until the volunteer shift was over;)

good luck!!

We have a new local consignment that does 80/20 and charges each consigner $12.50. But if they have someone cosign under them, the $12.50 is waived. On the first day(Wednesday) they have a preview day. They ask for volunteers to help work the sale and to pass out info to daycares/schools/churches (this would help you get the word out!). The volunteers can shop from 2-4 on preview day and the consigners shop from 4-6 on preview day. Thursday and Friday are open. Saturdays are 1/2 price day (unless the consigner does not want their items 1/2 price). All items are then picked up by consigners or donated to charity after the sale is finished.

As PP said, volunteers shop early at all the sales that I frequent. Sellers also shop a little early. Mine does 70% to me and 30% to her. She charges $7. You can donate or retrieve unsold. Now the local church does same amounts, but all profit goes to church.

I'd love to do one myself but I am in a big market already.

Names:
Amy's Armoire (or any other A name that is meaningful to you)
Boomerang
Carousel Closet
Mother's Cupboard
Teacup Party (they spin)- may be too girly
Dresser Darlings

Good Luck!

Do a web search for consignment sales. You can see agreements/contracts to get an idea of what others do. You will need lots of volunteers to make it work.

I consign/volunteer at one 2x a year. I get 70% since I volunteer. I also get to shop before it opens to the public. If you do two shifts or clean up shift, you get to shop even earlier. If I were to consign only, I'd get 50%.

Dani's Duds is a popular one around here, but too crazy IMHO. Another one is My Child's Closet, but the perks aren't good enough for me to do that one. Lots of MOPS groups and MOMS groups do these types of sales around here.

Good luck!

Our local sale is called "Just Between Friends" which I think is cute - but I'm petty sure it's protected. You can google Just between friends though and get lots of information. Just starting out I would recommend doing 70% for the consignor and 30% for you. Maybe even do 80/20 for volunteers along with the presale and as someone else suggested they can "shop" and their items will be put back but they cannot actually purchase them until their shift or shifts are complete. I was a consignor for the first time this fall and it just wrapped up. I had 25 "tags" (individual items or outfits) and will be getting a check for $65. I'm very pleased with that. The sale I participated in even has a tagging program online to print your tags instead of handwriting them. Good Luck! Just Between Friends has grown leaps and bounds since it's inception.

We've got two sales around here - both of which are a 70/30 split and 80/20 if you refer 5 people. That right there is an incentive to get people to spread the word. They also just have a flat $10 consignor fee which is just deducted out of your check. We go around and leave fliers at all the preschools, even some of the elementary schools if they will let you. They offer bonus incentives (first dibs on shopping, even before the consignors come in) if you get a free radio ad on a local station. They have volunteers that put up staked signs around town at intersections.

I usually make at $250 at each sell. Whatever doesn't sell, I usually hang it back in the attic and put it in the next sale. I got lucky and have the same consignor number at both of the vendor's sales here so I don't have to re-do tags.

The names here are Mom 2 Mom and Lullabies & Mudpies. I like the Once and Again best out of the ones you've mentioned.

The one going on in my town this week is called "Popsicles" and I'm actually working at it tomorrow. They do a 70/30 split. You tag your own clothes and they have a template online where you don't have to hand write them. If you refer 2 consigners you get 75%. There were flyers everywhere and ads on the radio.

They also ask for volunteers and give them perks. There are Super Volunteers who work 8+ hours, 8 hr volunteers, and 4 hr volunteers. If you work the last shift where you have to sort everyone's things to come pick up then you are given Super volunteer status without actually having to work that many hours. The Supers get to be the very first people in to shop for 1.5 hours, then they let the 8 hr workers, and so on. The public is last. They also repeat this cycle for their half price sale midway through the week. I picked up some of the best deals just for a few hours of my time and didn't have to fight with people over stuff.

I don't like 60/40 and definitely not 50/50. It doesn't seem worth it for that because then you have people marking things too high just so they can make some money.

We have Rugrats Resale around here...it's a 70/30 split. It's advertised in schools/churches/child related businesses...I typically make about $200 a sale and they're held in September and April.

Good luck with your new venture!

I would love to try this too around here. It sounds wonderful yet also confusing. Maybe it's just me because I just woke up.

How would you go about getting something like this started? Where do you hold you sale?

Thanks for any info you can give me.

Okay, I guess I'm getting the shaft here. I participate in a huge sales twice a year and only get 50%. The tough part of this is that it's now only a two day sale and the second day is half price! So, my $4.00 shirt that was going to get me $2.00 is now only going to get me a buck! ARGH.

This sale started out in vacant store fronts. Back then, the people running the sale would price and tag the items. I could understand the 50/50 split for that. Now, the seller has to price, tag and place their items in the area for sale. So, now it should at least be a 60/40 split with 60 going to the seller. The sale is now held in an exposition hall and is huge! (www.danisduds.com)

This sale requires that the seller only sell clean, non-ripped, non-stained clothes. There is whole list of requirements for selling items. When the seller brings in their items, they are inspected by volunteers. The people running this have got to be making a fortune.

I guess I look at it that I don't have to do a yard sale and all that goes with that. I hate dickering over things and don't have the hassle of advertising and people standing by my garage at 6am!

Good luck.

Now I will probably get laughed off here but you have to realize that I am not familiar at all with consignment. The only consignment I am aware of is that there is one shop in town that is a consignment shop and I went in once when my kids were young and never bought anything -thought the prices were too high for what they were selling. Anyway... It sounds like to me the OP is talking about doing a twice a year event. That this will be an event in space that belongs to someone else so that she and her Friends are not actually setting up a permanent store front. So the question that I am wondering about is why it has to have a snazzy name? If it was a permanent store front I would understand but this sounds to me more like an upscale yardsale where items are sold the organizers and the people who bring in the clothes get a portion of the sale price. I am not being critical just curious. I am pretty sure here is someone actually named their sale shoppers would think that it was a new business that would continue to be there after the sale. Maybe we aren't that creative here but I think it would be advertised as a " (time) length Sale by consignment at (location of sale)" please contact XXX for more information and to submit your items sor sale. I would be shocked if anyone here (I am talking about my area - rural Maine) would go through the effort of coming up with a name for it. Is this due to differences in where we live and possibly the populations- most fols here shop at Walmart so it would hardly be worth doing something like this anyway since there wuld be few name brand items for sale.
