Name Changes on Air Reservations?? Help Please!

You cannot change the name on an airline ticket on any airline at any price. You would have to cancel the ticket and buy a new ticket under the right name.

And Southwest is no longer allowing credits to be used for another person. Most airlines do not.

There are airlines which allow you to change the passenger for a fee, maybe $50.

Which airlines allow you to change the name on a ticket for a fee? Please post a link to the airlines which do; this would be useful information for many.

Harder to find at Southwest, and the date isn't quite accurate (it took several more months to work out some glitch or other) but "Effective January 28, 2011, unused travel funds may only be applied toward the purchase of future travel for the individual named on the ticket." So neither tickets nor passengers are interchangeable on either airline, thus there's no airline involved here that would allow a passenger change for any amount of money - despite what the first quoted poster claims.

Delta allows changes to nonrefundable tickets for $150  each plus any fare increase; Southwest doesn't charge any change fee.

This is the normal change fee for most legacy airlines for a flight change. However, this is not a fee to change a passenger name.

Can anyone provide a link to an airline which allows name changes on a ticket which Lewisc says is possible? Now I am really curious.

Just got off the phone with Delta, names are positively nontransferable. Extra is not even an option.

Frontier airlines let you change the name on the ticket. $50 fee plus any fare difference. Fee is waived under some circumstances.

Allegiant lets you change the name for a $50 fee.
Name changes are permitted up to 24 hours prior to departure. Once travel has begun, name changes are not permitted. All name changes will incur a $50 charge per name change.

Up until May 1 SW sort of let you change the name (cancel and use the funds to book the new passenger).

This is the kind of policy that can change, either way, without a lot of publicity. You really need to check your carrier.

It's not commonly allowed. My comment was in response to the poster who said:

It was my understanding that since 911 you could no longer change the name on an airline ticket. I inquired about doing this in 2007 on a Delta flight. I know previous to 911 you could do this since I did in 1997 (Delta) of course for a $50 fee.

The main reason airlines stopped allowing name changes was that people were buying tickets at low prices and then selling them by requesting a name change.

PP is correct, 9-11 has nothing to do with airline policy regarding name change. The airlines don't want people buying tickets on spec then reselling them.

Odd. The first part of my response disappeared. It started off something to the effect of, "The two posts I quoted piqued my curiosity, so I decided to do som research. I checked only Delta and Southwest because those are the airlines the OP is flying. Delta absolutely doesn't allow name changes at any price despite what one poster claimed. The information is here http://www.delta.com/help/faqs/customer_care/index.jsp#transfer and states:
Can I transfer my ticket to someone else?
All tickets are non-transferable per the fare rules. Name changes are not permitted."

And then I continued with the SWA information.

I don't think anyone on here knows the OP personally, so no one is any position to be commenting on the OP's morals or parenting. She was asking a question on a scenario which was answered in the first response. No need for any further self righteous comments or opinions on morality, IMO. Just saying :rolleyes1

Regardless, I don't think you should do what you proposed because of the potential consequences. As for the name change talk, I used to work as a TA and we were beyond adamant to people booking flights about spelling their names and using their full proper names (no you can't use Jim, it has to be James). You wouldn't believe how many people, even after we emphasized this, would still give us the wrong or incomplete names. And those people had to pay change fees too.

I'm so glad that the OP has decided not to attempt to change ID's of her DD.
It would be one big:headache: and could create a logistical nightmare for all involved:scared1:.

Hopefully the OP has considered the fact that his daughter would be charged with a crime if she were caught. It's not like WDW where they simply won't admit you and possibly retain the KTTW card...

This may well be true, I only know what I was told in 2007 when I inquired about changeing the name on a ticket.....the reply was something to the effect "since 911 we do not allow the changeing of a name on a ticket for any reason"

Before ID checks there was no need to pay to change the name on a ticket, my eldest son flew once on a ticket that a friend of his could not use and never changed the name at all.
