Name change for Newark Airport?

Hmmm...I would think they might change FJK or Laguardia's name. But I don't see why they would change a NJ airport's name.

Name Change for Newark Airport Proposed

Calling New York the "gateway to liberty," both New Jersey and New York governors want to change Newark airport's name to Liberty International. New Jersey Governor James McGreevey says the new name will memorialize those killed in the September 11 terrorist attacks. The Port Authority's Charles Gargano says the board will address the name change at its next meeting. Gargano says he doesn't see how there would be many objections.

Perhaps because UAL Flight 93 originated from Newark. Those passengers really fought the first battle of the war (and won), so I think it is very appropriate to change the name.

I believe that The World Trade Center was owned by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey? I think all 3 airports are also under the Port Authority? Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

All 3 airports are under the Port Authority.

I think it's an appropriate name change (after all the other 2 airports have had appropriate name changes over the years). Too bad the mayor of Newark doesn't think so.

They wouldn't change the names of JFK or LaGuardia because the names were changed in the past to honor President Kennedy and Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia. You don't take back an honor.

Newark Airport is also one of the New York City area airports and is located not far from the Statue of Liberty. I think it's a wonderful idea to change the name to Liberty International.
