Okay ladies I have a question and a mini survey. I just bought a new nail polish, I love the color, however, the polish seems very, very thick. Is there anything I can do to thin it out a little without ruining the polish?

Now for my mini survey.....what is your favorite brand and color of nail polish? My new favorite is by OPI and it is called Not so Bora-Boring Pink. How about you?

I don't know how to make it thinner but my favorite polish is Sally Hansens Liberated Lilac. :) It used to be Revlon Street Wear's "Prissy" but they discontinued it. They are both the same color. I also like Revlons Cherry Bomb. :)

I like the Sally Hansen brand. And when I do wear nail polish, I tend to lean towards corals and pinks.

New polish shouldn't be too thick. I would take it back where you bought it and have it exchanged. If you don't want to do that or have an older polish you want to thin you can go to Sally's Beauty Supply they sell polish thinner. Don't use remover to thin the polish it will ruin the make up of the polish.

You can try putting a little polish remover in to thin it. I used to paint my nails 3-4 times a week so have all this nail polish in a box under my vanity. I go for months without touching them and this has worked for me.

Anymore I go once a month and get a manicure (twice if I have time) and get a french manicure. Clean and neat looking and I don't have to worry about what color I wear. When the french starts to wear off I touch it up with the same 'colors' or brush color over it until I go for my next manicure.

Believe it or not I have had the best luck with the $1.99 Wet and Wild. It dries fast....I can't stand to sit and wait around or get sheet skids. I have everything from Estee Lauder to Mac in my box and this just seems to dry quickest.

You can get nail polish thinners. Here's one that's available at Sally Beauty Supply stores:

My fave is OPI's Tutti Frutti Tonga!

I agree, new polish shouldn't be too thick, and I'd take it back.

My favorite is OPI Far East Fuscia.

I usually put my nail polish in the fridge. My favourite brand is L'Oreal and I like pinks and reds.

Thanks all! I wish I could take it back, but it would be a long, expensive trip to fly from Italy back to NY. ;) I also wish I had some beauty supply stores at my disposal! I really love the color, it is too bad I didn't check it before I flew back to Italy. I guess I have learned an important lesson.

I usually put my nail polish in the fridge.
Does this help with thickness or longevity of the polish?

Debbi, sounds like you need to plan another trip to the States!:p

There are lots of nail polish thinners available here at drug stores like Walgreens as well as beauty supply shops. Are there *any* stores similar to those over there? (And the thinners are REALLY cheap- around $1.99 or so is typical.)

(Is shopping there really different than in the States? I'm very curious about the little ways your life is different now.)

Debbi - most of the on-line drugstores carry Sally Hansen products. I don't know if you can order to have shipped to Italy, but I would imagine it's worth looking into. Good luck!

One of my favorite colors is OPI Cheyenne Pepper.

I agree new polish should not be thick. I'm sure you can find polish thinner in Italy.

Tiggerlover,
I looooooove the Not-So-Bora-Boring-Pink, that is my color I wear it all summer and have been for the last year, I get my nails done every 2 weeks, and even have that on my toes. I don't know what I would do if they stopped making it....

My fav is Channel. Any color (lately Tickling Pink). It's thick that just one coat is enough. And it looks so professional even when done at home.
