Nags Head and The Outerbanks NC

don't miss the Lost Colony if it is running during your stay.

I was going to recommend this too! Also we like going to Pirate's Cove Marina and watching the ships. Going out on one of the piers in the evenings. Don't forget to go to "Brew Thru"! even if you just drive through and get a water. Touring the lighthouses is always fun!

Food- We love Red Drum Taphouse, it is on beach read around mp 12 or so. It is a must for every trip. We also like Mako Mike's, it is on 158 at mp 5. There is also a comedy club at the Ramada Inn (at least I think it is still at the Ramada). New York Pizza Pub has good food also, on 158 mp 11 or so I would guess. I love Pigman's BBQ and especially the sweet potato sticks, yummy! The deli in the Exxon station right across from the Ocean Reef hotel around mp 11 has great sandwiches to go (this is a real deli, not like a subway or something of that nature).

I am hoping to hit the OBX in May for a weekend. We vacationed there every summer from 1992-2004, but we have been going to Surfside Beach, SC since then, just needed a change. We did make it for a weekend in 2005 but didn't get down there in 2006, I love the OBX though and miss it! We have stayed as far north as Corolla and the furthest south is MP 16 in Nags Head.

now I have beach fever :beach: Have a great vacation!

Oh if you go to Ocracoke make sure you go to the pirate shop. Teach's Hole I think. Pay the buck for the museum tour. It's cheesy but fun. They have alot of neat gifts in there and t-shirts. Seafood markets are great. We go to Legal Seafood and get whatever fish they say is good and a bunch of shrimp. Every trip my kids make shrimp alfredo for one dinner. If you are going thru there stop at the Gingerbread House bakery, if they are open in the am for breakfast sandwiches. It's hit or miss on this. The breakfast sandwiches are great. Also the Orange Blossom has great breakfast sandwiches.

I do think we're going to see Lost Colony...that looks good. But I didn't about any of the other things everyone is telling me. Thank you!

I always stop at Whalebone Surf Shop in either Kitty Hawk or Nags Head I think. They have cool t-shirts and stickers. I always get one of their pirate girl stickers for my car windshield. Some folks I know love Dirty Dick's seafood also. When we go we always stop at several Sonics as we don't have them here.

OH and I always put in a plug, if you are in Hatteras go to the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum. It's a small local place, until they raise more money. You won't spend much more then an hour there. They have a great book shop, little films, and the actual first Hatteras Fresnel lense light house lense. They sell videos with the story on how this was located.

I remember when the lighthouse was near the water and walking all the way up it with my brothers and his friends.

Then they moved it one summer, like 1 foot at a time.

Now it is in a safer location, and the museum is nice. It is a must stop every time. The parking is better now too. The old place people used to park at the lighthouse and the beach location and it was hard to get a spot.

This thread is really making me re think our plans to skip OBX this year. I want to go back.
