Nagging Question...

Last year I booked a Garden View Standard Room at the Contemporary. Then a room discount was released to general public. So naturally, I call first thing to adjust our pricing but was told that I could not for that room I had already reserved. I did not have much choice so I reserved a TPV at the Contemporary. Then we switched (due to the cost) to the Wilderness Lodge (which was an amazing resort as well).

My nagging question is WHY couldn't I just adjust the pricing on the original room I reserved...If I remember, the special COULD be upgraded with the vacation package. So for all intents and purposes, I thought I should have no problem. It was the first time EVER that happened to me.

All that said, I recently reserved a room (again) at the Contemporary. If a special be released, shouldn't I just be able to adjust our reservation accordingly?

It must have been that either Garden View Standard rooms weren't included in the promotion that was released, or all of the Garden View Standard rooms allocated to that promotion were already booked.

I had that happen to me with a standard view room at Beach Club, and I had to upgrade to a garden view. Unfortunately, that's just the way it goes, not much you can do about it.

Specials are offered to fill rooms, so if there are already enough rooms booked in a particular room category and/or resort Disney has no need to offer a discount or only offered a few rooms that were booked quickly.

As the pp's said, discounts are offered to fill rooms, so either that particular room type wasn't included in the promo or all of those rooms allocated for the discount were already booked. With that said, sometimes you have to be flexible with your resort and/or room type to take advantage of a discount as having a reservation already in place does not guarantee a discount can be applied.

As it turned out we got to try the Wilderness Lodge and I now can recommend yet another resort. It truly was beautiful so it was not a loss...just a little disappointed. I'm hopeful that whatever comes out for August will include the Contemporary.

How were you able to book a Standard view in the Garden Wing at the Contemporary in the first place? How far in advance do you need to book? I've been playing around with dates for this year and it always seems to be booked.

It was just available and so I called right away...maybe just hit it at the right time? When I looked again for the first week in August it isn't showing availability. Although, like all the pps said it may not be available for the specials that may come out for that time so we may end up having to upgrade or change anyway.
