N.Y. Bagels

Anyone know where I can find some real NY style bagels close to OKW. I will be at OKW in a couple of weeks and I can't imagine being without good bagels for breakfast. I have been a member since '95 and have not found good bagels anywhere. Your help is desperately needed!

Wait.....Actually, Staten Island is the southernmost borough......

I have found them in Miami! I know that is not much help, but it is south of NY!

Many folks have tried to bring the NY Bagel to Florida but it just never seems to work. A friend of mine's father tried and said he thinks it's the water.

Let's also talk about what they call pizza in Florida....if anyone ever finds "real" pizza please post where.

We have retired friends who moved from Long Island to Florida----they just die for NY Bagels, but so far they have traveled near and far and they have come to the conclusion that THERE ARE NONE...........SO.......fagagetaboutit!!!!!!!! I just read on this board that Krispy Kremes are available at the Dolphin........Another NY "cuisine" just Loooooooooove them!!!!!!!

wdw has the worst bagels!!!!!!!! dont even waste another minute thinking you're going to find a bagel that even remotely comes close to a NY bagel!!!!!!!

When I lived in GA, I met someone from my area. Whenever I was on a visit to NY, I would have to bring back a dozen bagels for her.

Unfortunately, she liked the stinkiest varities, and, no matter how they were wrapped, that garlic/onion odor would escape. Yes, I was the lady on the plane with the smelly carry-on.

They freeze and refreeze great. Do what we do, bring them down and pop them in the freezer.

Here is one way to get NY bagels in Disney.Have them shipped to arrive when you do.I have never used mail order but the Bagels HERE ARE VERY GOOD.

I love H&H I love NY. but NY cannot claim Krispy Kreme as NY "cuisine" Krispy Kreme had been around the country long before NYC got it. I am not sure where they started though I know Kate Capshaw claims she used to go as a kid here in Saint Louis, anybody know where they started?

Well, since you asked, I visited their web site. Here's the scoop:

"In 1933, Vernon Rudolph, the founder of Krispy Kreme, bought a doughnut shop in Paducah, Kentucky from a French chef from New Orleans. He received the company's assets, good will, and the rights to a secret yeast-raised doughnut recipe.

It wasn't long before Rudolph and his partner decided to look for a larger market. They moved their operations to Nashville, Tennessee, where other members of the Rudolph family joined the business and opened shops in Charleston, West Virginia, and Atlanta, Georgia."

PamOKW, there is a New York style pizza place on 192 I believe heading West. We stumbled upon it once and we since we have to have pizza during our 2 week stay, we go there!! It really is pretty good!!! Not as good as pizza in boston, but close!!

As for bagels,,,,,,,not way!!!

Well, I'm not sure folks from NYC consider them NY-style, but I really like the bagels made by the Bruegger's chain. Much to my surprise, there are no Bruegger's in the Orlando area, and only 2 in the state (both in Tallahassee). Compare that with the fact that there are 7 in a 20-mile radius of Rochester, NY!

With this in mind, I bought some fresh bagels the day before we flew to WDW this past Feb. I put them in a zip-top bag, and froze them. The morning we left, I put them in my suitcase. They were still partially frozen 8 hrs later when I unpacked! I did the same thing with a couple dozen home-made choc. chip cookies. It worked out great! It was nice to have some familiar food on hand.
