MYW vs. PHP (Help!)

I'm sorry but I need a little help with this new ticket system. No matter how hard I try to figure it out I can't seem to. I have already purchased 2 adult 7 day PHP tickets for our upcoming trip in July from the WDW website. We are staying at ASSp but it was cheaper for us to buy the tickets separately. I'm thinking that I would save some money by trading in the PHP for MYW tickets. I would need to add the Park Hopper Option. We are interested in doing Pleasure Island and DisneyQuest but no other places other than the 4 theme parks. So it might be cheaper for us to simply add the Magic Plus Pack rather than pay for each separately. Keep in mind we definitely will not be going to the Wide World of Sports or the water parks. Can someone assure me that trading these tickets in will save us money?

It is doubtful that Disney will let you trade *down*. Usually, when you trade old tickets in for new, you have to get something that costs more than the tickets you have left. But, trading down is the only way you'll save money over tickets you've already purchased.

I'm pretty sure that I can trade. According to the DIS faq on MYW tickets:

I've already got Park Hopper or Park Hopper Plus tickets. Can I exchange them for Magic Your Way tickets?

Yes. Anytime, 1/2/05 or after, you will receive a credit for the price that Disney was charging for the pass that you have. If your pass is partially used, you will receive a pro-rated credit

Maybe someone can tell me for sure but that wasn't really my question. I'm looking for someone to tell whether trading them in would save me money and if it is worth me getting the add-on for DQ and PI if I go with the new tickets? Thanks.

You would save about $90 per ticket if you trade them in for Magic Your Way tickets.

I wrote that FAQ, and I neglected one teeny word: UPGRADE! :( I'm sorry! I don't know if Disney will allow a downgrade from a 7 day PHP. Definitely call and ask.

Hmmm...I'm not exactly sure how this is a downgrade. Maybe someone could explain. We are pretty much getting the same thing with the MYW tix: 7 day basic add hopper option add the option that allows you to go to DQ and PI.

Well, assuming this is allowed, would it save me money?

Downgrading's real easy in Disney speak. If what you want costs less than what you have, that's a downgrade! :)

Assuming it's allowed, you'd save $90 per ticket with a MYW ticket.

Bummer! I knew it was too good to be true. I will give a call to check anyway in January. Thanks for your info both.

Dan,

Do you have any idea how much old passes are worth? We have various extra days left on various park hopper pluses from three or four trips over the last three years. We have just enough for all of us to go to the parks three days in Feb. (we are giving some of our left over days to my Grandparents) plus four extra- one day left- hopper. So my question is how can I find out how much of a credit I can receive by turning in all these tickets. My husband works at a military base so they are military tickets so we probably paid less than what disney charged normally for the tickets. My hope is that if I turn in all of these extra hoppers that we possibly could get the base four day tickets since we don't want or need hopping or plus or non exipiring. This would allow us an extra day while we are there? Or maybe it would be minimal to get the extra day. Any suggestions? or should I just stick with the plan and do four parks in three days?

TIA
