We are planning a trip to WDW for April 06. My husband & I have been numerous times & I expect that we will be returning. I am planning on buying the 10 day, no expiration MYW tickets to get the best buy. My husband is concerned since he is 63 years old [and VERY practical!!!] and wants to know if you lose your balance if you die before the tickets are used. Since the biometric system is the wave of the future, the tickets seem non-transferable.

Does anyone have any ideas???? Not trying to be morbid, just practical. I would MUCH rather use all 10 days with him!!!!!!!!! :love2: :love2: :love2:

Oh no! I was thinking the same thing about the 10 day hoppers I bought for my parents. They are early 70s.

I'm so glad you asked this question, as I would like to know as well.

Oh Lord! LOL This sounds like my grandmother buying a 5 year Certificate of Deposit when she was 87 years old, had to get the better rate ya know. And, yes, she did live to see that maturity date! I also asked my mother, "uh, ummm, why exactly is she investing in something that matures in 5 years?" LOL, we still chuckle about that one.

This is why I do not buy into the DVC. My hubby is much older than I am and I am getting out of the Spring Chicken category too AND (I am ashamed to admit) that our children are not nearly as fond of DW as we are. Heck, truth is they would probably not be able to even afford the fees if we left them years to go on our timeshare. (sad, but true)

I am interested to hear the answer myself. Good question.

My guess is yes if you die before you use the entire ticket you will lose the balance. But since the difference in price is so little it would be a gamble I would be willing to make if I knew I was going back in the next few years.

From what I've seen, the persons who are always concerned about dying are the very ones who don't!
The grandmom of DH has been "dying" for the entire 22 yrs that I've known her!
For example: She won't buy clothing on clearance for the following season bc. she says she may not be around to wear them.
She's 102 yrs old and still lives in her own house, alone! I think she will live forever!!!!! Really!

My Grampa used to say he was so old he didn't buy green bananas!......P

Isn't your DH the type that would not let tickets(or money) go to waste? SO he can't die...until he uses them up. My dad went to Hawaii at 70 years old (no one lived past 65 in his family before) last year, but I can't get him to Disney or Cape Cod with me. I think my Dad's plan is to die with as much debt as possible...he's leaving nothing behind!!! :goodvibes And he has 3 years of stock losses to claim on his taxes...so I know he's good for 3 more years!

Death is one of the few cases in which airline will allow FF to be transferred.

I suspect Disney will let you transfer the ticket to someone else but it's possible they might just refund the difference in price which would be just be a few dollars.

In years past (at least ca. 1994) Disney advertised a hard line on this issue.

I remember a ticket brochure saying " [the 4 day World Passport] ... good for any 4 days out of the rest of your life ... "

They could always sell the timeshare and get quite a bit for it. I wouldn't let that deter you from buying into DVC.

Interesting question, I don't know, but when it came time to buy new passes for DM, 85, we went with a 7 day hopper, for a 3 day visit, but I think that Disney would allow for death and compensate unused days. My reasoning is that they have bought back MNSSHP from me with valid reason. I think that the cost per day for a 7 day or a 10 day vs. for a 3 day pass is worth the risk.

PS. We were in our late 50's when we bought into DVC and we're happy to have whatever years we can use. What happens after us, is up to our children.

You could adopt us :rotfl: we'd be very good "children"

I always wanted more children RADOPT. Bet you would even pick up after yourselves. I am sorely tempted but I doubt that you would want to put up with me. LOL

starwood, it is not a matter of only being able to enjoy the DVC for a few more years, there are days I am not sure if I am going to see the next sunrise. I do sorely regret not buying when it first came out and I considered it though.

I have it on good authority that dear Uncle Walt has made provision for people with days left on their tickets to get the FP of all FP's - through the pearly gates. Is only fair since Disney lovers are apt to be the best of the best. :cloud9:

I'd interpet this statement as an indication of no-blackout dates, no expiration date and possibly a little black humor. You won't be able to enjoy Disney after you're dead.

I really wouldn't interpert any other way.

Every religion and each person has its own view of the afterlife. My personal belief is that what could be better than to dwell in the House of the Mouse forever? After all all the basic religious tenants are there, love, laughter and being kind to one another.

I am hoping that all our old favorite rides and attractions will be waiting for me in their reincarnated forms.

I hope that "Food Rocks" is there. I miss that. :)
