I know this has been asked before, but I just want to make sure I completely understand. If I buy MYW tickets that DO expire, when I am at WDW if I decide to upgrade them to NO EXPIRE, can I do that?

I will only want the NO EXPIRE feature if I am sure we have enough days left to make it worthwhilie, so I might not buy it initially.

Thanks,

No, you can't do that. You are able to add options to your MYW tickets at anytime during your stay, however, they do not allow you to purchase the no expiration on only the remainder of your tickets. You must buy the non-expiration for all the days you originally purchased. This is explained on the FAQ board of disney's website under tickets.

I wanted to do the same.

Good luck

Yes you can but the no exp option price will based upon the original number of days on the ticket not the number of remaining days

HTH!

Yes, you can purchase a no expire option after you've begun using your tickets. However, you don't get to pro-rate that option. For example, if you purchase a 10-day MYW ticket and have four days left at the end of your trip and you want to add the no-expire option, the price of adding the option will be based on the original ticket, not on how many days are left.

If, however, you purchase a 10-day MYW ticket and have four days left at the end of your trip and don't think about it until three months later and THEN try to purchase a no expiration option for the days you have left, you won't be able to. Tickets without the no-expiration option expire 14 days after first use. At that point, you can't upgrade them or use them again.

Personally, I think this is one of the biggest downsides to the MYW tickets. Really forces you to plan ahead instead of just relax and enjoy the trip! My husband and I are going in Dec. and I have no idea what decision to make as far as the expiration issue as well as the park hopping.

OK, these are the rules straight from WDW ...
You may purchase a ticket with an expiration and then have 14 days from 1st use to upgrade it to a ticket that does not expire (or any other modification such as adding Magic Plusses or Park Hopper).
If adding the No expiration option after the 1st use, the price applies to the total original ticket, not just the number of remaining days.
If it has been longer than 14 days since the 1st use of the ticket, the ticket is NO LONGER upgradeable.

I don't understand that. If you're not sure you'll use all your days, you just buy the ticket without the no expire. Say you buy a 6-day ticket, assuming you'll use all six days during your 8-day trip. You don't buy the "no expire" option. On day number 6 of your trip, you realize you haven't been in the parks every day, and you notice that you still have three days left on your ticket. So then, before you leave, you go and add the no expire option. It hasn't changed the way you spent your vacation, you didn't have to plan in advance. You bought what you thought you'd use, used it less, and are now adding on so you can use it next time.

I guess what I mean by that is that now I know the cost. With the "old" park hopper tickets, if I bought five days and only used 4, no big deal. Now if I buy a five day pass and really am not up for going to the parks another day, I have to decide whether to go to the parks when I'm not 100% into it or whether to pay to "keep" my ticket.
