I spoke to my ta who advised me against getting the myw dining option. I am not sure though. There will be four of us over age 10 plus a 2 year old. My girls 14/16 both say they won't eat that much food but who knows. We will be there 9 nights but not sure which parks will be visiting when, we kind of want to plan it as we go. Is anyone happy they did NOT get the dining plan. We do have the AAA rate on our room and have our tickets purchased. We do tend to share appetizers and my h is not a big dessert eater.

Any insight would be helpful

thanks

It sounds like you are better off without the plan. Considering you like to plan as you go, you could have problems with table seating if you are there during a very busy time and do not make any advance reservations. Also your 2 girls don't eat alot and they will be paying the adult price so that may end up with a lot of wasted food. I have two boys and my 13yo will definitely eat the adult portion without a problem. Add to that being able to have dessert at every meal and my boys will be in heaven!

One way that it might work for you is if you all split meals. At table service that would mean two people share an app, entree, and dessert. Of course doing this means you have more table service credits to use up and seeing how you like to plan as you go.... it might just cause headaches.

Honestly it sounds like your TA might be right. He/She probably knows your personality and how you like to travel, so I would trust them. Good luck with whatever you decide.

If you have any kind of discount on your room, you can't get the dining package which might be why your TA advised against it. It might not have been worth it in his/her eyes considering the money you might save on food vs the money you def saved on your hotel room.

I'm trying to decide what to do, too. I'm having to wait til the next AP rates come out to figure which would be better...room discount or food prepaid.

You CAN get the AAA rate and get the Dining Plan, too- but you have to book through AAA, not any other TA. That might be why your TA advised you not to get the Dining Plan- he'd lose the booking if you decided to go through AAA.

I can not see how you would spend less than $35 a day on meals unless you did a grocery store stop eating cereal, granola bars and PB&J's in your room for lots of the stay.

IMO that is NOT a vacation diet. I like to eat and have fun, part of the having fun on vacation is being adventerous and ordering a fun drink, appetizer or a meal that otherwise you wouldn't risk.

I would add it. Honestly there is no way you will spend less than that w/o doing meals from the grocery store as more than half your food. Even just counter service for your meals will add up. We would have eaten very poorly and still spent the same over our 9 days there w/o the meal plan.

Read the reviews... it's worth it.

If you feel that the sit down restaurants give you too much food, you could consider eating at signature restaurants that take 2 options for each PS. You could do HDDR one night, Luau another, etc. That would leave you all of your counter service options for each day. If you split meals, you could still use all of the options on the plan, get to experience some great meals/shows and still save $. Personally, I think the My Way dining plan is the best thing Disney have ever come up with! The dining possibilities are endless - it truly is a MY WAY plan!

We did this and saved over $200.... not a huge amount of money, but it's money we get to keep instead of give to Disney!!

I really appreciate everyone's input. I tried to go through AAA and they said they had no room discounts with the MYW dining plan. Someone said I would save about $200.00 with the meal plan and that's about what I am saving with the AAA discount on the room for our length of stay. So I think I will skip the dining plan this time and try it when we go back with our now 2 year old daughter. I am just planning on going and enjoying our trip. Thanks for all the info this board has been :cheer2:

Your right, they don't have room only discounts with the MYW plan but you can book a package deal (room, park tickets & dining) through AAA and you will save money still. I did this and am saving just over $200 on my vacation in August.
