I just got one last night. I'm surprised that I can't tell much of a difference at all. :confused3 I called the tanning bed, and talked to some young girl and she just said to call back later when her manager was there.

Have any of you had this? Thoughts?

Where I go they have three "levels" of color... light, medium and darker. Did you get the "light"? when I'm tan in the summer I still only get the medium.
Could be that your skin is darker than mine, and the "light" color just doesn't show. I'm pale!

No but I saw it on the "Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader" show. I would like one but the thought of getting into a small booth and then not breathing freaks me out.

So how was the process?

http://www.mystictan.com/ for more info.

I am noticing alot more color now. I guess it can take a while to develop. I'm pretty darned pale to start with, so it kind of gives me a glow, without looking like a big fake bake. They told me they have 3 levels, but the only difference is how much mist it puts out, so they go by your size. She had me use the 2, which is the middle setting.

It was a little freaky! You stand in the cold mess left before in a booth, and it blows you away! You wear a hair net, but don't need anything else on. If you leave on undies, you can tell more how much you got. It's like a big tsunami coming at you! Cool mist at full force. I tried to hold my breath, or just breathe shallow. Apparently I didn't have my mouth closed all the way, so I was spitting the terrible taste out. If you open your eyes a little bit, you can see nothing but fog. It sprays you 4 times up and down, then you turn around and have the other side. You dry off and you're out of there. It went really quick.

Although creepy, not much worse than climbing into a coffin in the regular tanning bed.

I got my SO's mom a gift certificate to get it done before a Disney trip because she expressed interest in it. The girl there told her to put the lotion on her hands so they didn't tan. Well she did that and a day later her hand were the only part on her that LOOKED tan! It was insane...

...of course I can't think about Mystic Tan without thinking of the Friends episode where Ross kept getting his front side misted!! :rotfl:

This to me is like QT- fake tanner in an automated sprayer. The results were the same-spotty and orange.

Make sure you call.

I get Mystic'd quite often, and never have had un-noticeable results. Generally, it's too dark, and fades to what I like.

It's possible their Mystic Tan machine was out, or running low.

I convinced my DH to do this with me before we took a trip to Cabo San Lucas this past March. (not sure how I did that!) We were offered 3 levels like a PP said. We went for medium and put on the protective cream. In my opinion we looked orange and you can really see it in the pictures from the trip. Plus it streaked on our feet even though we did the barrier cream. I wouldn't do it again....I think people look better with their natural skin than the obviously fake color the Mystic Tan or any other fake tanner gives a person.

I occasionally use a tanning bed to tan when I feel the need but I did allow my DD14 to have a mystic tan.

I went in with her to help her prepare. We followed the instructions and she wound up a mess. Orange and blotchy. I would not recomend mystic tan based on our experience.

(I have used Este Lauder sunless tanner and was very satisfied with an even, deep brown tan. I went from pale to dark tan in one day by using 3 applications throughout the day.)

When you called the tanning bed, what did it say?? :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Kidding people, don't get crazy!

I don't think I look orange, but certainly not a natural tan, either. I love having a tan, dammmm cancer risk! I know there are different places that offer the spray on tan, and I've heard the Mystic Tan brand is the most natural looking. I've tried about 5 different brands of self tanner, with not much luck. They don't seem to really show up. I'll have to try Estee Lauder next. I had never thought about putting a few applications on back to back, though. Will certainly try. From a pale former tanning bed addict....:sunny:

OK, I have a dumb question about self-tanners. Do you have someone put it on your back and other places you can't reach or see? I am pale as pale can be and I have considered the Mysitc tan until reading this thread! :lmao: The only alternative for me to get tan is a self tanner. Are they a pain? Do they look real? I've never really had a tan so I wonder if it wouldn't look right on me! Oh the joys of being pale!

I don't put it where I can't reach. I have used it for a color boost, but not for a summer clothes vacation. (I use UV radiation for that. :confused3 )

I wouldn"t use mystic tan again.

I don't think that it's a pain. I tan very well with sunless tanner, nice and brown. The results you get depend on how well that you apply the tanner.

Scrub yourself in the shower. Use a skin brush or a good loofah. Make sure to pay attention to your knees, ankles and elbows. You don't want to apply the tanner to dry patches.

Put on a cotton nite gown, a loose one and some snug undies. Put your hair in a head band and put it up if it is long.

Trim excess cuticles and relax while you dry. Even after toweling off I do this air dry thing.

In the bathroom get your selftanner out. I use a lotion tanner. I would not use a spray on.
Prepare a washcoth with warm soapy water. Ring it out well and put it aside.

Put the self tan lotion on your hand and put your hands together to get about even amounts in each hand. This helps me get it on evenly. Apply it to your face, neck, shoulders, chest rub it in pretty good. If you need more lotion, get more. I go over my closed eyes and mouth lightly and rubbed in well on my ears and behind them. Don't forget the back of your neck and at least the top of your back that you can reach. (someone else can do your back for you if you want)

wash your hands well with soap and water and dry them well. Wipe off your lips with a damp washcloth.

Then using the same method, apply to your feet tops and up your legs. Don't put it between your toes ( just across the tops of your toes) Don't apply to the soles of your feet, avoid cuticles. Go ahead and apply to ankles and knees. Rub it in evenly all around your legs.

wash your hands well with soap and water and dry them well. Wipe off your toes/cuticles with a damp washcloth.

Put the self tan lotion on one hand to apply to opposite arm. Start at the shoulder area about where you left off earlier. I do not apply it to my underarms, I just blend it in around the pit area. Apply the lotion, even over your elbows and rub in well. When you get to your hands, close your fingers and apply to the top of your hand. Do not purposely apply it to the palm of your hand.

Repeat on other arm.

When you are done take the prepared washcloth and wipe your palms really well. If you are careful you can wash only the palms of your hands with soap and running water.)
With a soapy rung out washcloth wipe between every finger from the palm side of your hand. Open your fingers and get in between them at the base. Wipe off the sides of your hands, sides of your thumbs and the palm of your hand down to your wrist. Wipe off your nails and cuticles.

Last, Rub the tops of your hands together. You may carefully add a drop of tanner to the top of one hand and rub it in very well with the top of the other hand up to fingers, but not nails.

This is the work that makes all the difference and makes the tan look very natural. You have to pay attention to what you are doing.

I have repeated this procedure (not the shower part) 3 times in one day a couple hours apart and had a fabulous dark tan by supper time.

Hope it helps.

If you use gloves, like the ones nurses or beauticians use, you don't have to go through that stuff with wiping off the hands. I use the latex gloves and when I am through with the rest of my body take the gloves off up to the finger (not all the way off) and wipe the tops of my hands to get the darker look. Its easier than using soapy cloths to wipe off the lotion.

I did the Mystic Tan a few years ago before BIL's wedding and it worked great. They did say it would start to gradually darken, and after about 2 hours it did get darker. I did already have a tan. It was to help cover tan lines and give me a deeper tan, and I was satisfied with the results. :)
