For those who have experienced mystery shopping:

do you put in your social security number when you sign up for these companies?
I am skeptical about putting all that personal info to a website that I am not 100% sure if it will work out.
I hear of mystery shopping but I never known anyone in real life that has done that.

thanks!

Yes I do - it's a real job - you need to make sure the site is secure and it's a legitimate site.

Read the forums at volition.com and you will learn much. You can also get lists from the site of legitimate mystery shopping companies.

I employed a mystery company when I was working, when I became a SAHM I started doing some shops for them. When I first started no SS# was required. A year or so later something changed (tax laws maybe?) and I had to enter my number on their system before I could do anymore shops.

DW used to do mystery shopping. Never made any real $ off the deal, but did get a few free dinners out.

My son has been doing it for about a year and he loves it. He makes about $700 a month but he does a little differently than most would. He schedules all his shops on one day in an area. He'll hit 17-18 fast food restaurants all in one day.
Don't know what areas they are hiring in. He usually does Michigan.

Yes you need to give them your SS number for tax purposes. However like others have said, NEVER pay to get a list of shops!

I'm signed up with about 4 Mystery Shopping companies & I had to enter my SS # to apply for each one. Never had an issue & it's been about 3 years.

I second volition.com for info. Thats where I signed up with companies. I got out of it for a while but am getting back into it now. All the companies I signed up with have my SS#, it is required.

I signed up recently and they asked for my SS number too. Hopefully my schedule will clear up soon so I can make some $$$!

I know I'm new and all but I would be happy to give any of you the company website by if you are interested. My DS's GF's father owns the company so he knows him personally. It's all fast food though!
Not a plug for his company because I've never met the man but it is good money. Primarily midwest.

oh ok cool. I will check out volition.com

I was just making sure about these type of sites, because sometimes things can be "too good to be true"

I found an awesome site for mystery shopping, and so far it looks legit. I got a call today for an assignment.
It's not a lot, but I will keep checking volition.com for others. but hey, I just got a little start.

shopperscritique.com

I am going to get a haircut at a salon around my house and will get reimbursed for it. Not too bad!

The best "mystery shopper" gig I ever heard of was one that our Finance Officer's mother had--mystery shopper for Guinness. And yes, she had to drink on the job!

Shopperscritique is definitely legit. My husband and I do several different shops for them and have for years. They used to have some great shops Disney types would like...no more though.

I've done mystery shopping off and on for years, and yeah, they need the ss# so you can get paid.
My favorite shop was for a theme park that many of us enjoy and love, the one I hated the most was for a cell phone company - very boring to listen to all the features of cell phones when you're not really in the market to buy one. LOL

I would just make sure that the site is secure. But, like any othe job, a ss# is needed.

can anyone tell me-and you totally don't have to if you dont' want to-around how much you make doing this? Is it just being reimbursed or do you actually get a paycheck?
