Mysterious Building in Epcot

Hi, does anyone know what that building is in Epcot between Test Track and Mexico? There's a little pathway you can take to cut the corner to get to World Showcase, and it's a big peach-colored building with restrooms. It's a fairly large building, but all of the windows are blacked out and it seems like some sort of secret conference room or something....?

Every time we walk by, we are kind of creeped out by it lol!

That used to be the Odyssey restaurant...a pretty good counter service place. Been closed for, oh, I don't know...probably 10 years or so. It's a shame to let it go to waste. I know they do use it for conference events and special occasions. But I think Epcot could use another restaurant.

I believe it is called the Oddessy (sp) Building and is mainly used for special events these days. Or it is not used at all.

If memory serves me right, it used to be an eating place but that was too many years ago.

There is a baby station on the Mexico side, which people say is very nice and relaxing for mother an child.

This used to be a restaurant, I think the name was Odysey or something like that. It has been closed for years. I don't think it was open on my first trip in 2000. I believe it is used for private parties now. There is a restroom in it that doesn't get used much from what I've read. I just think of it as a sign I'm getting close to the fiesta margeritas in Mexico.

evil laugh resounds across Epcot, it's where they do awful experiments on people , gasp, who like universal better than Disney

i think it used to be a restaurant and they still use it for special occasion type functions if I'm thinking of where you are thinking so sorry nothing sinister :sunny:

man i type slow, this was "0" responses when i started :rotfl:

The first time we went to Epcot in '83 it was open and we did have a meal there. I remember it being pretty nice, but for whatever reason it closed a year or two later and never reopened. I agree, it seems like a total waste of space for the last 20 years, and it gives off a very negative feeling to have such a prominant building permanently closed.

I love how we all replied at the same time.

Its also used for Magical Gathering Events, which by the way are great! We did the Epcot Magical Gathering in February, well worth every penny!

Yes, the Odyssey restaurant is now used for convention functions. It does actually get quite a bit of use, and from paying conventions, too, so it's certainly not going to waste.

The Millenium Pavilion, which was built in World Showcase for the WDW Millenium Celebration in 1999, is now also used for such functions.

My DH had a conference/function there with his company.

Ex DH and I were there in '86 for Epcot's 5th and WDW's 15th anniv....I'm about positive it was still open then....just sorry we never ate there.

Wasn't there a character breakfast there at one time, back in the 80s?

LOL! Thanks guys! Now that I know what it is/was, well be less creeped out next time haha.

There is a stage in there too. i remember seeing people performing there in the early years of Epcot (but don't remember who or what). The character breakfast was actually at Stargate Restaurant (a counter service that is now the Electric Umbrella).
I know there were character appearances at Odyssey during the day at various times, but I don't think breakfast. I've got an old UG from 1992. it lists the Odyssey and says they move people thru pretty speedily, but they don't list anything about the food other than that it was fast food.

Steve Martin played here on his very first paying gig.

I think George Burns (or Jack Benny) used to discuss "playing the Odyssey " in the early years.

The original lighting was kerosene (later gas) but when the WPA was established, they put in Edison Bulbs and never looked back.

Oh, if those old Odyssey walls (they have the original paint) could TALK, they'd be an attraction in themselves.

If you can slip in and take that old elevator up to the 13th floor (its marked "14" on the button) you can step into the dressing room of none-other than "Satchmo" himself, Yo Yo Ma.

Man the memories...

Unless we're discussing the Epcot Odyssey, in which case its just an eye-sore in a theme park.

It's the old Odessey Restaurant, that is now used for other functions....I took a cooking class during F&W last year and it was held in there.
