We are DVC members , we haven’t ever cancelled a trip . We just tested positive Monday for covid . Two of us (myself and son are sick) we are all vaccinated . New CDC guidelines say we can leave isolation after 5 days if we have no symptoms . I’m worried about my other children . We borrowed 68 points for this trip . We are supposed to arrive Jan 3-7th. We really want to go but are worried about where everyone will be by the 3rd - we will be past the 5 days and we all , always wear our masks ( except for our Santa pics which I’m convinced is where we came in contact with covid) will member services take this into consideration what are the steps so we don’t loose our points ? This has never happened before . Will we loose them ?

So sorry to hear :(. Hope you are all better soon. Since you’re within 30 of your reservation, your points will go it holding. You have to use them by the end of your use year. And you’ll need to book for a trip that happens within 60 days of now. Which can be hard to do since there’s limited availability. You could always try to rent your points or rent the reservation as it is booked since availability is low someone might jump right on that. (in which case don’t cancel your stay - but since the reservation is so close, generic point rental might be best choice). Hopefully you can go as planned!

Oh, I'm sorry to read of this! You can certainly call MS and ask for an exception, but if they can't grant it then renting out the reservation is an option to consider. If you decide to cancel, it's true that the points will go into holding and have to be used by the end of this UY, but I wanted to clarify one thing - when you book a new reservation with the holding points, checkin date for that reservation has to be 60 days or less from the date you book the new reservation, not from the day you cancel the original reservation. So if this January reservation is early enough in your UY for you to book later in this UY, canceling is another option.

As mentioned you do not lose them as long as you cancel at least a day before check in. They will go into holding which means they are restricted to booking a stay that is no further in advance than 60 days from the date of booking. A lot of what that means for using them depends on your UY. You can also call MS and see if they are willing to make any exceptions. One might be that they will just place the points back into their regular status and not into holding. A little less likely is that they will return the borrowed points but doesn't hurt to ask. I'd just expect the answer to be no and be pleasantly surprised if it's yes.

Yes, my use year is Sept 2021 so I would just have to use them by august , but last minute availability is hard to come by 😩 I cannot believe this is happening right now . We are vaccinated , we wear masks , we are conscious about washing our hands and we had no one over for the Holiday!

I’m just glad we won’t lose them completely . I would rather not rent them out because we do want to go at least once this year being the 50th. Praying we are all better by the weekend . I am also in dental hygiene school - we have 4 children and my last semester was very tough on my family 50+ hours a week , some days I wasn’t home until 10:30 because I had evening clinics . This was our reward for last semester , I have one more semester left so worse case we can try for a May trip after I graduate and take my board exams .

:tink::tink::tink:for you that no one has severe illness and that you can go either in January as scheduled or in May. Best wishes on your graduation too!

Yes ! I will take all the pixie dust I can get ! We love Disney so much and want to be responsible at the same time , so as long as everyone is good we will go ! We will be past the 5 day CDC recommendation and we always wear the masks in Disney !

Not to rain on the parade at all but the CDC seems to be the only place on the planet that gives the shortened recommendation without also adding "negative covid test". Agreement is because testing is still rather difficult to get here and not because it wouldn't be the best practice.

Anway - if you do have to cancel at least call MS to see if they can remove the holding restrictions so you could book something else after your next semester asap. Things do open up and summer is by far the easiest time to book more last minute so I think you'll be fine if that's what ends up happening.

We had a trip planned right after Thanksgiving. 4 days before the trip, my DH went back into AFib. We had to cancel. My DD called MS for us. They did NOT put our points into holding. But we did have 3 borrowed points that did stay in this use year. I was happy with the outcome.

This may not work for you, but at least give it a try.

A side note, my DH is scheduled to get his heart shocked again Jan 7, we aren't going anywhere the next 10 days. I don't want him to get to the hospital on the 7th and being told you have covid , you can't get it done.

Your points must be used by Aug 31 is good news. July & August usually have a lot of availability, and now that pent-up demand is easing up, you should be able to get something in those 2 months. May not be what you want, and certainly won't be the hard to get rooms, but you can still have a lovely trip. I hope you all get well, and the others don't get sick. Take care.

Just say I am sorry but hopefully MS will at least waive the holding status for you and you can get a new trip booked from now.

A few things...

We are in a similar boat. Everyone around us is dropping like flies with Covid and one of my DDs has some symptoms that we are assuming are covid. Rapid tests are a joke right now. Almost everyone is coming up negative, but PCR tests are positive.

Our trip is 1/2-1/7. DD will be fine by Sunday, but I'm concerned about the rest of us developing symptoms. I'm out of time and don't know what to do.

I just had a 1/16-21 trip in a BWV studio but the system glitched when I went to finalize. My point here, is stuff opens up last minute, I wouldn't worry too much about holding unless YOU cannot be flexible for a last minute trip. Myself, I'll be refreshing all night hoping to push our trip off for 2 weeks, but if it doesn't happen, we mask up, head out, and hope for the best.

How sick is everyone? My DD's is milder than a cold. I'm hoping if we follow, we are as mild. We are vaccinated, 2 of us previously had covid, 1 is boosted.

I’m actually all better , just no smell . My son who has symptoms and tested positive also has a mild cold like illness . Everyone else is negative . This started before Christmas so I’m assuming they would have all been sick by now . We have all kept masks on in the house (us who are sick have N95) and the others are wearing regular masks and then a cloth on top . I can’t be so flexible until after May , I have no time off starting 1/10 😩 I’m thinking we will be fine . I really don’t want to cancel and you can’t help but wonder how many people are walking around asymptomatic without a mask on 🤦🏻‍♀️ We will at least always wear our masks and always have followed that rule . I’m not against masks nor am I against vaccines either .

Praying you get through this safely and hope you recover swiftly and no others get it. Yes the Rapid tests don't accurately detect Omicron per the CDC and don't actually tell you if its Delta or Omicron. PCR does but takes longer and more expensive.

I think you will be fine if this started going around before Christmas.

Here's to hoping both our families get to go and have a good time next week!

My daughter will be moving to FL later in Jan to start the Disney College Program. We are part of several student and parent online groups. This is going around heavily in WDW right now. I guarantee you there are plenty of others in the airport and at the parks with the same dilemmas we are having.

Thank you ! Me too !

That’s great that they were able to help you out. I wish him best of luck with his cardioversion. I was also back in Afib a couple weeks ago and while I was laying on the table for my cardioversion, the ekg came back normal and I did not need the procedure after all. Yeah it was tough isolating while waiting for your procedure date. Tell him to hang in there,

That’s good to hear ! Hopefully everything works out ! These are crazy times ! Makes me wish I bought whatever that insurance was that DVC has popping up now when I booked my trip . Not sure if that was always there but I just noticed it with this one . Sending pixie dust your way !
