Disney Gift Cards

Please keep the gift cards even after using them to pay for your tickets or combining them, until your trip is completed.

A friend used Disney gift cards this past weekend to pay off part of their trip and quickly noticed the balance remaining was not correct. It was off by $400!

She called and the CM confirmed there had been a glitch and my friend needed the GC numbers to correct the situation.

I don’t believe this is common but it’s also not the first time I’ve heard of it happening. I now hold my emptied GCs until our trip is complete then throw them out at that time.

FWIW, if you're a Discover card member, the 5% cash back bonus (up to $75 - meaning you get 5% back on the first $1,500 in eligible purhcases) for this quarter includes wholesale clubs. That means you can buy Disney gift cards at BJ's (~3-4% off already) with a Discover card through the end of March, and save the equivalent of 8% on the first $1,500 worth.

Yes you can go to Disneygiftcard.com and combine the gift cards to one card up to $1000. If you have more than one $1000 to pay with you may need to call

Dealing with this right now and it's so aggravating. Both the fact that it's a $1000 limit and the fact that you can only combine cards if their totals perfectly add up to $1000 or less vs. just transferring enough to get to $1000 is infuriating.

Currently on a 40 minute hold because the person I instantly was connected with could only process a ticket purchase using 2 cards (online it is only 1). Our tickets cost less than $2000, but I have 3 gift cards each with less than $1000 on them, but too much individually to combine them at all.

😤

We use them all the time on-line. We also purchase them from BJ's because we get a $500 card for $479; a great way to save a little extra money.

Target red card 5% off. I usually get $1000 to start and add more throughout my trip as needed, you can do it all online. I have a pretty old physical GC I use as my main payment source while I'm in the parks, I go to the GC website and transfer to that card as I purchase the digital amounts.

If that card has ever been out of your sight (like paid for a table service meal) you are risking compromise. Gift Card funds are not legally protected, even if registered on the website. You can file police reports for funds that have been drained and then go to Disney to try to get the funds back but that rarely works out as they are usually long since spent and non-recoverable. Recommended procedure from those who use gift cards often is to kill the physical cards you use on your trip when you get home and order fresh cards from shop disney or retailer of your choice. This way way if anyone took a pic of your gift card without your knowledge and they try to nab the funds in the future they're out of luck.

Interesting. I’ve never had that issue. What do you recommend as an alternative? I have several older gift cards I’ve reloaded over the years, not just the one.

The new Disney gift cards are flimsy and terrible quality. They need to find a way to add to Apple wallet or something. I also think they ought to have tableside POS for payment like in Europe.

I buy physical GC form Disney store to transfer my funds to. $25 ones. After I take one on a trip and use it I trash it and start with a new one. The cards from Disney store are all a fun print making them easy to keep track of, and they are all hard plastic.

I may try that next time. The recent physical card I got was a Christmas gift and while technically plastic, I guess, it was flimsy.

I buy new cards from the Disney Store online with the minimum $25 load after I finish a trip. Don't think I've ever gotten the cardboard crap from them but if one design were to come cardboard I'd just order a different design. If you order a couple cards at a time like I do just pick different designs for each card.

You can add some eDisney cards to your apple wallet but it doesn't work like credit cards. You pull it up and they scan the bar code or type in the gift card data by hand. In order to add a card to your apple wallet it needs to be purchased as a digital gift card from the Disney Store, on the email it will have a link at the bottom to add to apple wallet. (We had a report of 1 of these apple wallet cards compromised. Best I could guess was someone nearby in line managed to take a pic of their card. Disney stupidly displays the gc number and the pin code on the screen when you bring the card up, so if you're prepping before the checkout stand the data is quite visible.)

So you’re paying for everything using $25 increments or am I misunderstanding here? I know you can transfer from card to card. How are you keeping track of everything?

Also the Disney store online doesn’t give you the Target 5% off and when I’m buying $500 at a time, it’s a nice discount.

It does not get you that 5% like Target. It's just the cost of doing GC deals for me. I do try and buy when there is a deal on one of my credit cards quarterly for 5% back via PayPal since they take PayPal.

Hmmm. I’m of course paranoid now. I’m glad I understand this better. However 3 trips since 2022 using only this GC to pay for everything and it’s been ok. I used it for 17 days in January this year and then for a day at DL in early Feb.

But, I’m all for security so I need to figure out a method here that’s more secure. I’m not going to carry 18 different cards around with me though.
