We are thinking of a trip this year and it have been a few years since I was there. I have only stayed at the North end, once at Kingston Plantation and at a place called Sea Watch (where my friends were owners). I have done a search here but was hoping for more info on nice places to stay as it seems things keep changing and growing from year to year!

I was wondering if anyone knows where the new Marriot Grand Dunes is located in relation to the places I've stayed. I see they are doing a time share villa thing there but from what I've read it seems that won't be ready until later this year. Having stayed at many Marriot villas in Orlando and loved them, I was curious about this new place. It seems there is also a Marriot hotel there as well, but I really don't want to be staying in the middle of a construction site!

I'll keep looking, but I would love to hear from you guys if you have any recent recommendations.
Thanks!

Hey Princess Dot!

If we don't make it to WDW this year, Myrtle Beach is our backup plan!

We prefer the North end of the beach as well. When we had a family reunion in 1999, we all stayed a the Long Bay Resort because of the different room types available and their location.

If we go back this year, we plan on staying there again!

Hey Blondie! Thanks for the quick reply. That places looks nice! I thought the north end seemed nicer, not as busy as further south and it seemed to have more of the "newer" resorts.

I am keeping a file of resorts then I will sit and compare. My kids said if we could not go to WDW this year then Myrtle Beach was their choice. Got to love the mini golf! Plus its only half the drive time for us.

I'll let you know how it goes!

Thanks for the replies!

Lori, the villas at Kingston Plantation are really nice. I can't remember the name of the ones we stayed in there, but after staying in an oceanfront condo at Seawatch, I don't think I could go back to staying off the ocean. Was Windemere on of the ones close to the ocean? Did you like it there? What I did like at Kingston was the great facilities, we used all the pools and the health club. That was back in 1992 though. When did you stay there?

Luckyforme, thats a great website, thanks! I like to hear people's personal experiences too though.

We were there last year. We weren't ocean front but we were near the water park. We rented an umbrella on the beach. I loved the bands that would play beach music and the bar beside it was nice.;)

The villa was very clean and the maids did a great job.

I can understand wanting to stay ocean front. It is so relaxing to hear the waves hit the shore. AHHHH!!!!!

Living only 50 miles from Myrtle Beach,We have stayed many times. One of our favorites is the Breakers Resort.http://www.breakers.com/ . It is within walking distant of alot of fun things. Really loved this place when the kids were younger.mrsdash
