We are looking to head to a beach this summer and I am trying to decide between Myrtle Beach and Gulf Shores. Which is a better "family" vacation spot? It will be myself, DH, DS (12) and DD (7). Also looking for any recommendations on places to stay or things to do while we are there.

Thanks

I am a big fan of Gulf Shores. We did a few family trips there when I was younger. I would check out www.tripadvisor.com for places to stay and things to do while you are there. I use this site all the time to get real peoples advise.

They are both family friendly, I was just look at which one appeals to you and how long you would have to drive to get to one or the other.

I agree, drive time is essential! I have never been to the Gulf Shores, but I have been to Mrytle several times and it is extremely family friendly!

There is only a 1 hour difference in the drive time for us, so not much difference there. I think that we are leaning towards Gulf Shores. I have been reading that the shells are much better down there and DD loves to collect shells :goodvibes

we live 30 mins from gulf shores, we were just there this past sunday. I've never been to myrtle beach before but i'm pretty sure our beaches are prettier. we brag on our gulf coast beaches!! right down from gulf shores is orange beach and it really nice with lots of condos! they have a couple of places that have the lazy rivers. we have the best seafood too down here. my vote is gulf shores!!

The beach at Gulf Shores is much prettier than Myrtle Beach. If there were only one hour of driving difference I would definitely choose Gulf Shores!

Never done Myrtle Beach, but went to Orange Beach for New Years with my wife one year & loved it. We actually prefer Panama City Beach for trips with the kids though.

I live in about 40 minutes from Gulf Shores, so I have got to go with Gulf Shores as well! The beaches are awesome, crazy good seafood, and you've got lots of opportunities for day trips if you tire of the beach, like Mobile or Pensacola. I suggest having at least one meal at LuLu's in Gulf Shores : ). Very yummy fish sandwiches and fun atmosphere!
