We might be going in a small trip to Myrtle Beach in June. Where do you recommend we stay? What are some cool things to do? My kids ages 3 and 6 will be with us too. I think we'd like to stay near the beach and have continental breakfasts.

Hi, we went in July '03 and had a great time. We went for 5 days and stayed at Compass Cove. That hotel is ok. It was only about $60 a night and had a separate bedroom and a pull out couch. Our kids were only 1 and 4 at the time so it worked out good. They have a couple nice pools and a restaurant. The room also had a kitchen in it, which was nice because we like to eat breakfast and lunch in the room. The boardwalk is nice and they have a lot of things to do for kids. It is a very family oriented city. I hear SeaMist is nice and they have a great pool for kids. We also went to see the alligators (I can't remember the name of the place), but it was about 20 minutes north on MB. The vacation to Myrtle Beach wasn't my favorite, but it was a fun, inexpensive mini vacation. Great for kids.

Lucky for you I used to live there!!!

You MUST MUST MUST go to Broadway at the Beach for the shopping.
There are also some REALLY good restaurants there to eat at. Joe's Crab Shack, Liberty (MY FAVORITE), Tony Roma's (awesome ribs).

Across the street from Broadway on the backside of the property there is a water park and the Nascar Speedway.

Also be sure to take the little one's to Bullwinkle's one night for dinner. It is cafeteria style food but there is a huge play park inside there for them to play in..It is lots of fun!!!

LOTS AND LOTS of putt putt places, Ripley's aquarium, IMAX theater, go-carts etc.

Hotels : I don't recommend that you stay on the beach in MYRTLE . 1. you are going to pay lots of $$$$$$ even for a roach motel in June. Also the traffic up and down the main strip is CONSTANT, and you will have the hardest time coming and going. It is so loud your children will not be able to sleep at night. (I lived 3 blocks over and I could hear the noise at my apartment).

I suggest you either stay in N. Myrtle or possibly further down in Surfside, Garden City, Murrell's Inlet or even Pawley's Island (very nice place) (We stayed at the Hampton Inn in Pawley's last June and it was like 85.00 a night through Expedia with a great cont. breakfast)

Litchfield Beach is in Pawleys and it is in NO WAY as packed as Myrtle. Alot cleaner too. You can also go to the Myrtle Beach State Park which is more family oriented and not as packed.

Oh I envy you I love it there and would LOVE to move back there one day!!!

My DH and I admit that yes while it was always crowded there we miss it because there was ALWAYS something cool going on to do!!

Have FUN...have anymore questions PM me!!

my parent live down there(Pawleys Island) fro the last 5 years and we visit about 4 times a year, we also have been vacationing since the since the mid-80's. I would also stay away from Mytle Beach proper, a little seedy and very congested. If I were going and were to spend money I would look at the Marriot resort thats right on the watch or Litchfield By the Sea which is in Pawsleys Island and also on the beach.

Food wise skip the chains, some of the local and our favorites:

Murrels Inlet
Dockside
Drunken Jack's
Do not eat at Bovines

Pawleys
Chef Louis
Franks Outback
Fish House(good fried seafood, very kid friendly we have 4 and 2 yr old)

Myrtle Beach
Sea Captains House

Fyi the Children museum that thre is pretty good for a bad weather day activity...enjoy

I just checked out the Ocean Creek Resort. Its gotten pretty good reviews, looks nice, and the price is right. Does this include complimentary breakfast? I couldn't tell. Also, has anyone been to Kingdom Park and did you like it? Tell me about the Alligator Park. Can you tell me more about the nascar speedway thing? Thanks! :)

I'm interested in hearing about Sea Mist..has anyone stayed there?

Beach Cove Resort in North Myrtle Beach! LOT'S of pools, small arcade, restaurant, pool bar/sandwich shack, very close to Barefoot Landing! We love it! :cool1:

We have gone to MB every year (or sometimes more than once a year) since I was a child - I am now 37!! We have stayed at almost all sections of MB at one time or another. One of our favorite resorts is he Crown Reef which is in South MB. it is right at the end of South MB - it is a big resort and it is oceanfront - which is nice - I hate to walk (few blocks) or drive to the beach. Spoiled I guess!!! We also like to stay at the Springmaid Resort which is also in South MB - however it is secluded off to itself (no traffic) and has its own pier and restaurant. It is not as nice as the Crown Reef, but you can sometimes get special rates - check out their website. Out of all the places to stay in MB (Cherry Grove, North MB, Windy Hill, etc..) I think we like South MB the best - it is the closest access to everything we like to do.

As some of the other posts suggested - you need to go to Broadway at the Beach - they have some really neat shops (my Kids love Klug's (sp?) Kites). The Ripleys Aquarium is also there. There are also alot of outlet malls - my fav is in Conway.

My DH is a classic car fanatic and we go to the Run to the Sun car show in March of each year - this is when we try out new places to stay as the rates are so cheap. Granted there is alot of traffic during these times and in the summer on Ocean Blvd, but sitting outside at night usually at Peaches (hot dog stand in MB) and watching the cars pass is one of my DH favorite passtimes!! But driving in it is another story - we stay down at the very end and miss most of the traffic. :earseek:

Hope you have fun!!!!

We went down for a long winter weekend and stayed at the Embassy Suites. They have a water park as part of the hotel (not open in winter!) which looked to be a lot of fun. The property is set in a plantation with limited access, so it is completely off the busy highway and is surrounded by woodsy areas, lots of ponds and such. They have a full hot breakfast each morning as well as snacks and drinks in the evening.

We too have gone to MB for many years and here is what we have done:

1. Dinner shows - Medievil Times, Dolly Parton's dinner show.
2. Broadway at the Beach. Always something going on there. They have an aquarium and putt-putt, movie theater, restaurants and shopping.
3. Barefoot landing - shopping & dining. They have alligators in the water that are cool to watch. There are some really big ones there too.
4. There is putt-putt on every corner practically up and down the main road through MB.
5. Outlet malls.
6. The alligator place.
7. We buy fireworks and let them off at the beach.

We've at so many condo's I couldn't remember them all, but Sea Watch was a nice one.

Have fun!

I checked prices for two different places.

Ocean Creek is 412.50 w/ tax This is cheaper and it does look nice but if we want to go to a water park or something we'd probably be paying almost the smae amount or more as Sea Mist

Sea Mist is 519.64...not sure if that included tax. I like the idea of Sea Mist since they have the water park, putt putt, and its close to the beach. I'd be across from the beach since I chose the cheaper price.

I don't think either one has a continental breakfast. Not sure what to pick and I need to make a reservation by Saturday.

My DH's Aunt lives in North Myrtle Beach. She lives in the Windy Hill neighborhood, about 2 or 3 blocks away from the beach. We take a golf cart to the beach when we go. She works at Beach Cove and we stayed there once and loved it. It has a great pool and a lazy river. The Alligator Adventure is in Barefoot Landing. It doesn't look like it would be very big but when you get in there it blows you away. Very fun. I hope you have a great time. If you have any other questions just ask. :earsgirl:

I also forgot to tell you our experience with the NASCAR park. We hated it. There is really no cover when you are outside so if you aren't in line for the gocarts then you are constantly in the sun. Everytime we would get in line to do the gocarts it took like an hour in each line because they would run out of gas and then would have to pull them all in to fill them up. We ended up only doing one of the gocart tracks and when we got to the front to finally get to go I was told I wasnt tall enough. I am 5'1" and have had my license (sp?) for like 15 years and I couldn't drive the gocarts. I would never go back to that place. It looked like they had a decent arcade but I guess to each his own. Have Fun. JMO.

I do agree about this park. Usually something fun for the taller folks but I am 5'3" and I too could not ride the go-carts. I meant to say also if you like to have the snot aggrivated out of you while you are eating go to DICK'S LAST RESORT at Barefoot Landing. I love this place but DH hates it because they really do just aggrivate you the whole time you are eating. The food is pretty good also. I also agree about the food down in Murrell's Inlet and Pawleys Island VERY GOOD!!!

We plan to make a trip to Pawleys next summer to visit some friends we used to work with .. I can't wait. I wish they would make DH a job offer at the fire dept. there that he could not refuse so we could move back.. ;)

My mother lives just over the border on an island in N.C. so we are in Myrtle Beach several times a year. We love Alligator Adventure! Here is their website: Alligator Adventure

My children always enjoy the Dixie Stampede.

We stayed at the Patricia Grand twice and loved it both times. It is right on the beach and has a pool outside and a lazy river pool inside. I would stay there again-

We have visited Myrtle Beach a few times. I can't recommend a hotel because we go with my parents and stay in their RV at a beachside park. I would second (or third maybe? ;) ) Broadway at the Beach. My kids LOVE the Mytrle Waves waterpark. We have yet to see it crowded either. We were there last year Memorial Day weekend and it felt like we had the place just about all to ourselves.
