Any budget ideas for vacationing in Myrtle Beach? Where to stay, what to do, where to eat?

Family of 4 - mom, dad and dd's 20 and 14.

Hotel - looking for something close to the beach, doesn't have to be oceanfront, but within a block would be nice.

Thanks,

Sea Mist Resort is fairly decent and has buildings both on the beach and across the street.

For dining, that is a whole forum worth of info in itself. There is something like 1500 restaurants in the Grand Strand area.

We were hunting for a particular restaurant in Pawleys Island and ended up eating at a place we didn't intend. It was awesome. Pawleys Island Cafe and Deli. We were glad we couldn't find the place we were actually looking for.

We visited each of the different areas for dinner so we could explore after dinner. Murrells Inlet, Pawleys Island, Little River, there are a lot of areas to go explore at dinner time. Most of the restaurants are fantastic. The little restaurant on the 2nd Avenue Pier is good too. It would have been a nice walk out the pier after dinner if my wife and kids didn't think they were going to die walking the mile and a half from our hotel to the pier (bunch of lazy slobs, LOL)

Prices are very reasonable, far cheaper than it would cost the 4 of us to eat out at a mediocre chain restaurant here at home. I think I ate shrimp 5 of the 6 nights we were there. My wife ate a lot of crabcakes.

Hotels are pretty inexpensive as well. We stayed at the Dayton House 2 room oceanfront suite. June pricing was around $550 for 5 nights. Many places have 25% or 30% off specials for booking before the end of February (they did last year anyways.) We booked in February for that price in June. Sorry, but it's not vacation at the beach unless you can wake up and eat breakfast or have your coffee out on the balcony and watch the sunrise, especially at such a low cost for the week.

We were looking at seawatchresort.com

They have great deals for spring break.

Sorry to hijack this thread.. Would anyone have info on great high end resorts on myrtle beach. My 3 best friends and I are planning a girls only weekend at the end of the summer to celebrate 25 years of friendship and our ummm , 40th birthdays.. So we want lavish and gorgeous and to stay somewhere we may not ordinarily stay.. Thanks!!!

When are you going?
We stayed at Bay View Resort in a condo. Right on the beach. Very friendly staff. Depending when you go they can have some great prices. We paid $50 including tax per night.

Crown Reef Resort. When we stayed it was about 51 a night for two queen beds in a separate room, kitchenette/microwave/oven thing, a table, pullout sofa, and a murphy bed. Facing the ocean, with a large balcony.

As for food, Broadway at the Beach surprisingly has a few places that are inexpensive. Liberty Steakhouse is one of my favorites. As for more suggestions, I recommend picking up the Monster Coupon book and the Sunny Day coupon book (available at most of the ocean blvd stores and hotels and a lot of places around Broadway at the Beach.

It offers a lot of discounts on items, food and activities.

Have fun!

Check out Dunes Village (just google Dunes Village, Myrtle Beach). We have stayed there and thought it was pretty nice and they often run discounts and special rates. It is right on the ocean, close to shopping and dining and the indoor water park is nice too.

DH and I used to live in Myrtle Beach, and still go back to visit often as we only live a few hours away. We always stay at the Ocean Park, because we have doggies :). But when we go without them, we love the Ocean Reef! Places to eat, we like to head out of MB. Try Nance's in Murrells Inlet for great fresh seafood, or even Harrelsons, a little place that sells fresh seafood and also does great lunches (its really casual, picnic tables inside!) their crabcakes are SO good!

And for high end, never stayed there but dream of staying at the Anderson! Ooohhh it looks sooo gorgeous!!

Y'all have fun!

We do the Marriott Grand Dunes right on the beach and absolutely love it. We're going back again in April

KINGSTON Plantation has an Embassay Suites and high end condos. It is a gated community which I think is a plus on MB.

The Palace is a great hotel! You can choose from "sun suite", one bedroom, or 2 bedroom/2 bathroom (Which would be great with the two DD's!!!!)

We've stayed in the 2 bedroom before. It also has 2 balconies.
Also, in every room, there is a FULL kitchen, which would save some money, by keeping a few groceries in the room.

They regularly run specials. We were thinking of going & staying there for Spring Break, and for the one bedroom, it would only be about $65 a night (with one of their specials).
