Myrtle Beach restaurant and bar recommendations

Not a seafood place, but a place on the beach that is fun is Riptydz.

another vote for restaurants at Murrells Inlet - and it's a lovely place to stroll after dinner. Also Bimini's Oyster Bar.
If we eat at Drunken Jack's, where would you recommend strolling after dinner? Should we stroll within walking distance of Drunken Jack's, or drive to specific part of Murrell's Inlet and stroll in a specific area?

Also in the not seafood department, Dagwood's Deli. The Northern is I think 13 bucks now instead of what it was (11) But it easily fed both of us. The bread was so large, it looked like a piece of one of those big giant bread loaves from the Super. The Cuban wasn't genuine...... But it was very good anyway. I can't wait to try some other sandwiches.

You can stroll on the marsh walk after enjoying your dinner. It will be right alongside your restaurant of choice. It's a lovely place - usually lots of places with live music on their decks. http://marshwalk.com/

That sounds amazing!

Thank you - I had no idea this existed! Do you think there would be live music on a Sunday or Monday night?

I second Drunken Jack’s. I’ve been known to go just for their hush puppies and honey butter. :)
Have you had Bovine's hush puppies and are they comparable to those? Those are the only hush puppies Ive liked (although Ive not had a lot) but they were so good! Its a shame they stopped making them.

Speaking of hush puppies, stop by Dead Dog Saloon, also at the Marshwalk. The hush puppies are no longer on their menu but if you ask, they will bring them to you. AMAZING! They don't taste like normal hush puppies though. They are more like soft bite size funnel cakes. You won't be sorry!!!

Will they serve the hush puppies during breakfast? Because there is nothing for vegetarians there, not even a salad without meat. Unless I want to make myself a meal of fried sides.

During the summer, there's music more nights than not. Some performances have been postponed due to the COVID-19 spike. So it would be best to check with the restaurant. Dead Dog Saloon is one that has music frequently.

I'm not 100% sure, I've never been there for breakfast. Sorry. But it's worth asking...

Hi Dis'ers! My boyfriend and I are taking a 4-day trip to Myrtle Beach (leaving in a week and a half) and would love to hear your restaurant and bar recommendations!

Restaurants: We are looking for good seafood places (seafood platters, fish & chips, po'boys, etc.) that are not rip-offs. Ocean views would be nice, but are not a requirement. So far, we have found:
Sea Captain's House - fancy atmosphere with ocean views; looks like a nice place for a romantic dinner
Mr. Fish - food photos look delicious; fun-looking atmosphere

Bars: We are looking for places with ocean views. Live music would be ideal, but is not a requirement. So far, we have found:
Ocean Annie's - directly on the beach; live music

We are staying at the Sand Dunes Resort, which is near 74th St (north of the boardwalk area, south of the Apache Pier). We would like to have multiple options, in case more places re-close due to Covid (no debates, please). Thank you so much for your help! We can't wait for our vacation!
How was you vacation?! Where did you end up eating?

Thanks for the suggestions so far! We are staying at the Sand Dunes Resort, which is near 74th St (north of the boardwalk area, south of the Apache Pier).

It looks like Murrell's Inlet is about a 30-minute drive. Are the Murrell's Inlet restaurants worth that length of a drive compared to options closer to Myrtle Beach? If so, we will drive down to Murrell's one day.

I would love to hear of more recommendations closer to Myrtle Beach, as well!

I am looking up all of your recommendations so far!
The driving to Murrell's Inlet is funny to me. Everyone warned me that it's a bit of a drive. Sheesh, it was 45 minutes just to buy a gallon of milk for me at home, LOL. 30 minutes was an almost nightly thing going to the ice cream stand with the kids.

Our favorite was 2nd Avenue Pier. We ate Creek Ratz in Murrells Inlet. That was fantastic. I am not a fan of the huge calabash buffets at all. They are nothing more than a glorified very expensive Golden Corral. Original Benjamin's is the one we did. Not that it was bad, but as I said, a glorified Golden Corral at $32/person back then.

I never tried it but Prosser's BBQ buffet in Murrells Inlet is always recommended. It looks like a hole in the wall place but everyone on the old MB forum I was on had it as a must eat.

Another that we never tried yet but is always the top of the list with best burger in MB is River City Cafe.

It's been 8-10 years now, but back in 2010-2012, it was normal about $75 for the 4 of us to go out to eat at home and we never spent more than $50 on a meal in MB (except the calabash buffet). I eat shrimp about every night at each restaurant.

Myrtle Beach to me is like what Disney is to all you. I love MB, even with how introverted we were. You would think the Outer Banks would be my thing but nope, it's MB with all it's commercialism, tourist traps, and people.

Dagwood's Deli, I knew there was deli sandwiches we loved but I couldn't remember the name. Dagwood's, yes, that was fantastic.

Dang it, I should learn to read entire thread, LOL So yes, how was the vacation? LOL

Thanks, everyone, for your thoughtful and thorough responses! We leave Saturday! So excited! I will report back!

Hi everyone! Just wanted to provide an update. We went to Myrtle with a list of restaurants and backups, not knowing what the pandemic situation would be. Sure enough, several places temporarily closed or switched to takeout only, so we had to revert to some backup options. We ended up eating at:

Filet's Waterfront - loved it
Lulu's - nice atmosphere and good food; very long wait due to the 50% capacity situation though. They didn't utilize their space in an efficient manner IMO.
Sea Captain's - great view; good food but overpriced (and they didn't have scallops, which made the $30 seafood platter even less of a value)
Mrs. Fish - hole in the wall place; good food at reasonable prices, especially for lunch

On our list for next time will be Drunken Jack's! Thanks everyone for your help in making our vacation fantastic!
