The choices are overwhelming. Where in Mrytle Beach has anyone stayed. Was it nice--- or is it a stay-away place. I'm looking to hear the good and the bad- so I can reduce my list alittle bit.
Looks like we're going to head here Easter week. Looks like lots of availability still so we should be fine in that aspect. Now, I just need to pick a place to book.

We usually stay at the Hampton Inn & Suites -- a great hotel where every room has an oceanfront view. Some rooms are one or two-bedroom suites with full kitchens. Two pools, lazy river, beach access, ample parking, great FREE breakfast.

We have stayed at Carolina Winds and the Beach Cove. Both were nice but I liked the Beach Cove better. We also have stayed at a condo that was very nice called Land's End which wasn't much more than the hotels.

My parents always stay at the Beach Cove. They like the location, the hotel, etc. They've stayed a few other places (Caravelle, Patricia Grand, the Breakers) but prefer the Beach Cove.

We prefer to stay on the south end of myrtle beach or in a condo in garden city or sunset beach. In Myrtle beach we stay at the Crown Reef which is the next to last hotel on the south side of town. Extremely nice and in a quiet area. Enjoy the trip!

For Easter, I'd recommend the Landmark--it has a number of indoor pools including a large lazy river. It is located more towards the southern part of the beach. Most rooms are two room suites, some with 1 1/2 baths. Last time I was there, it was showing a little bit of its age, but was still good. I like them because they have a parking garage across the street with an enclosed elevated walkway over the street.

The Crown Reef is also a gorgeous hotel. We were there in the summer, so I am not sure about their indoor facility.

I've also stayed at the Captain's Quarters, Patricia Grand, Forest Dunes, Caribean and liked them. Most of the hotels are newer, and have decent features.

Thank you-- keep 'em coming. There are so many "no-name/chain" hotels in the area. It's hard to go by reputation of a good chain on this one.

Interestingly enough my wife and I are considering going to Myrtle Beach in April.

We have only been one time before, but it was in Nov. and we were at a function that did not allow any free time. All I recall were a lot of strip clubs (not interested ;) ), the theatres, and more pancake houses in any one place on earth than I have ever seen before. :teeth:

But we are looking for a place to go for an extended weekend just to relax for a bit.

Any suggestions for that area? Feel free to PM.

Well--- that's an interesting take on the area..... :confused3 . We've only been once and it was for a day. I was really interested in Hilton Head/Charleston split stay-- but it looked a lot like it was out of my price range per night.

This posters memory is failing them I think. I only know of one strip club in myrtle beach that you can find without specifically looking for them ;) . Yes the pancake house statement is correct (yummm), and yes several theatres but most are outside of myrtle beach to the north or south and you have to go looking to find most of them. I wouldn't hesitate to go there on vacation, as we have went several times a year for the last 20 some years.

We have been going to Myrtle Beach for the NY spring break (along with what seems like the entire state of NY) every year for the last 10 years. Our kids (at the time when we started going) were 17, 14, 6 & 4 and there was/is always something for everyone to do. As our kids grew and changed, so did their activities ... while one year is was all about mini-golf and :mickeybar ice cream, then go-carts & amusment parks to most recent interest in paintball ball, dinner theaters and chain restaurants. :drinking1 (our older kids still join us occasionally- with their families). But give me the shopping ... everything from a huge new mall, Target & Walmart to major outlets, touristy stores (at Barefoot Landing or Broadway at the Beach) and the requisite Wings, Pacific or Eagles (beach stores on every corner). It has changed so much over the past decade, that we sometimes forget what it used to look like when we first started going there.

I am a very visual person and like to research and 'see' places before I get there, so what I do is go to Webshots and search the place I want to 'see'. While there are 17,000 pages of pictures and a lot of them are people pictures, you can get an idea of what the area looks like and things to see & do.

I can't help you on where to stay as we have stayed in the same place for since '95 (Myrtle Beach Travel Park - rented a 35' travel travel trailer on the beach! always with no less that 4 other families.), but you are right, there are soooo many places to choose from - both new and old.

This will be the first year that we aren't going (while other in our group are), but the 2 younger DD are in varsity softball and well, practice comes before vacations (and they are just as disappointed as DH & myself!)

:lovestruc You will LOVE Myrtle Beach! April is the perfect time to go - a little busy, yes, but not nearly as bad as the summer months. The :sunny: weather is beautiful - esp after the long cold gray winters of the Northeast! :cold:

Another vote for the Beach Cove Resort... we stayed there and loved it!

Sorry, I seriously was not trying to be insulting to the area. Those were just the things that stuck out in my memory as "different" from the Gulf Shores beach area I grew up with.

However, we do plan to go back now that we can spend time, and was just wondering what attractions y'all personally recommended.

Thank you to everyone again for the suggestions. Seems like there are a lot of timeshare properities in that area---- trying to muddle through those on some of the search engine discount booking sites.
